4,500 gallons, 900 pounds empty, and only 91 inches of height

At 900 pounds the Snyder 7000400N40 is the lightest way Snyder holds 4,500 gallons, and at 91 inches tall it is one of the lowest. The shell is 143 inches across, molded in Chowchilla, California, and the sheet rates the move as freight at class 400. Water alone is 37,530 pounds; the wall is rated for a specific gravity of 1.5 on the sheet, which puts the ceiling at 56,295 pounds of contents. An 18 inch threaded, vented manway gives access, the sheet gives the outlet field as 1 Manway / Lid with no bottom fitting listed, and the draw-off is specified at order. Eight lifting lugs, ladder lugs, one flange line, 140 F / 60 C, 3 year warranty.

Class 400 out of Chowchilla, and what that costs

Read the freight line before anything else on this tank. It ships from Chowchilla, California, and the sheet rates it at class 400 where the heavy-duty wall in the identical 143 by 91 inch shell carries a lower class on its own sheet. Each sheet gives its own class and we print what it says. What that means in practice is that the cheap tank on the price line is not automatically the cheap tank on the dock, and on a long lane the class can move the landed number more than the list does, so price it before you decide: the freight cost estimator takes your ZIP. The listed price is before freight. The rest of the case for this tank is weight and height. At 900 pounds empty it is handled with ordinary yard equipment, and at 91 inches it goes under roofs and inside curbs that taller tanks cannot enter, while 143 inches of width puts 37,530 pounds of water, or 56,295 pounds at the rating, across a twelve foot circle. A rotationally molded floor bears on all of that circle, so the slab is engineered per the concrete pad sizing guide, poured level, in full contact, and inside a berm sized to the tank where the liquid is regulated. Take the volume to the tank sizing calculator against your draw and delivery interval, and the working reserve and thermal freeboard to the tank sizing guide.

Within the shell the choice is rating and color at the same 900 pounds and the same 4,500 gallons. This tank's 1.5 is the middle of the three ratings the mold is sold in: the N29 is the white tank rated 1.35 on its sheet, the N32 and N33 are the black tanks at that rating for a liquid sunlight degrades, and there is a heavy-duty white grade in the same shell, rated as its own sheet says, heavier empty and rated for a denser load. Step out of the shell and the trade is floor against height. The 5210000N40 turns 4,400 gallons into a column on a 90 inch base at 182 inches for a narrow slab, and the 7000500N40 takes 4,600 gallons to a 120 inch base at 116 inches, which is the middle ground when 143 inches of floor is more than the room allows.

The manway sits 91 inches up on a tank you walk around

  • Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway at 91 inches, on ladder lugs. Low enough that the lid is worked from a short fixed ladder and a small platform, and a dip tube is dropped without a lift. Vent outdoors, sized to the delivery pump, on any liquid that fumes.
  • Outlet: the sheet gives the outlet field as 1 Manway / Lid. No bottom fitting, no diameter, no thread, no material, no gasket is listed on it, so the draw-off arrangement is confirmed at order with the liquid named.
  • Structure: eight lifting lugs, ladder lugs, one flange line on the sheet.
  • Service limit: 140 F / 60 C.

Everything about the fittings on this tank follows from the lid being 91 inches off the pad on a body 143 inches wide. The manway is reachable, so this tank actually gets inspected; the liquid column above the floor is short, so a pump has very little suction head and wants to sit below the draw-off with a short, straight run to it and a low-level cutout to save it from running dry. The width has its own consequence: a fill landing near one wall on a shallow, wide body mixes poorly, so a dip tube run to the floor is worth the trouble on any liquid that stratifies or settles. Keep the lid closed between deliveries, put the name of the one liquid on the wall, and light the headspace band at every opening, because that is where a wall shows its age first. In a freezing climate the valve and the first pipe run get the trace heat; the body handles ice from the top down.

Where 4,500 gallons at 1.5 goes to work

This is a workhorse storage tank for the site that has floor and no ceiling: hypochlorite and other treatment chemicals in a low chemical bay, a fertilizer or nutrient solution under a shed roof at a co-op, a cleaning solution at a food plant, process water or makeup water anywhere at all with a wide margin against 37,530 pounds. A fire reserve is a different engineering problem, from the sizing discipline down to the freeze protection, and the fire-water reservoir design guide is where that decision is made. Where the site is banding stored water by quality and sequencing it through treatment, the industrial water reuse tank topology article places a wide, low vessel like this one in the train and explains which stage it suits.

900 pounds, class 400, one California plant

Crated at 143 inches by 143 inches by 91 inches out of Chowchilla, California, as freight at class 400 as the sheet lists it. Nearly twelve feet of width makes it a wide load on a flatbed, so the site needs an approach the truck can use and a telehandler or a forklift with long forks to take it off. At 900 pounds it is the easiest lift in this size class, which tempts people into short slings and bad angles: straps under the body and to the eight lifting lugs, nothing through the manway, and the tank set down on the finished pad rather than on dirt beside it. Then water to the manway, a hold, a slow walk around the pad edge, a drain and a dry. Get the empty weight and the part number onto the maintenance record the day it lands, because in five years that record is the only place either number will still be written down. Save the pallet; a tank that ever has to move again is easier to move on it.
