The Snyder Industries 5000 Gallon ASTM XLPE Black Vertical Storage Tank is a heavy-duty crosslinked polyethylene tank built for large-volume water storage where a tall, small-footprint reservoir makes sense. It holds 5,000 gallons, stands 154 inches tall on a 102-inch nominal diameter (102 x 102 in. footprint envelope), and is molded in black crosslinked linear polyethylene (XLPE) with a 1.5 specific gravity rating. That combination makes it a serious candidate for bulk water storage, fire-water reserve, rainwater aggregation, and industrial reuse duty.

Will this tank work for your site?

Start with weight and footprint, because a 5,000-gallon vertical tank is a structural decision as much as a storage one. Filled with plain water, this tank carries roughly 41,700 lb of contents; at its full 1.5 SG rating it is engineered for up to 62,550 lb of contents. That is about 21,000 lb more than water, so anyone storing a fluid heavier than water must design the foundation to the rated load, not the water load. The whole 62,550 lb rides on the 102 x 102 inch footprint, so the pad underneath has to be sized and reinforced for it. Our concrete pad sizing guide walks the ACI 360R-10 framework for above-ground poly tanks, and the Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide help you confirm this 5,000-gallon vertical is the right volume before you commit.

Fittings and configuration

Per the technical drawing on this page, this tank is configured with a flange, an 18-inch PE threaded/vented fitting, a 12-inch x 23-inch access fitting at manway scale, and a flat fitting pad. Reference the drawing on this page for exact fitting placement, elevations, and outlet detail so your plumbing, vent, and overflow tie-ins are laid out correctly before the tank arrives. The vented 18-inch fitting matters on a tank this tall: rapid fill and draw need adequate venting to avoid pulling a vacuum on the sidewall.

Where XLPE fits

This is a crosslinked (XLPE) tank rated to 1.5 specific gravity, which is a step up in wall toughness over standard HDPE water tanks and is why it carries a higher contents rating. For fire-reserve or industrial-reuse water at 5,000-gallon scale, that heavier build gives you margin. If you are sizing a rural or remote fire-water reservoir, our NFPA 22 fire-water reservoir design guide covers sizing discipline and cold-climate freeze protection, and the industrial water reuse topology guide shows how a bulk vertical storage tank fits a grey-water, rainwater, or HVAC-condensate train.

The most common mistake on a tank this size is under-building the foundation and freight plan. This vertical storage tank ships LTL freight from the Snyder plant in Philippi, West Virginia, quoted live to your ZIP. Get your number with the Freight Cost Estimator or call 866-418-1777 and we will quote it for you. Because it leaves West Virginia, freight cost rises the farther west the destination sits, so it pays to confirm your ZIP before you order.
