5,000 gallons on an eight and a half foot base, black, rated 1.5, out of Philippi

The Snyder 1002100C37-BLACK stands 5,000 gallons up instead of out: 102 inches across, 154 inches tall, 950 pounds empty, molded in black polyethylene at Philippi, West Virginia. It is the tall 5,000 for a site with a tight pad and a roof to spare, with the 18 inch threaded, vented manway at nearly thirteen feet. The wall is rated for a specific gravity of 1.5 on the sheet, or 62,550 pounds of contents against 41,700 pounds for water, and the black resin keeps sunlight off the load. A 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead outlet, a 3 year warranty, and freight at class 300.

Less floor, more strap: the tall 5,000

Trading floor for height has a cost, and on this tank the cost is paid in strapping. A 102 inch circle fits behind a building or between two existing tanks, but nearly thirteen feet of empty black tank on it is a sail, so cables or bands to structure go on at the top third before the first fill, anchors are set in the slab, and the tension is checked after the first windy week and the first full summer, because a black tank in the sun grows a little every day and loosens what was tight. Full at the rating it puts 62,550 pounds on that circle, a heavier load per square foot than the low 5,000 carries on its ten foot base, so the slab is engineered per the concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact, inside a berm sized to the tank where the liquid is regulated. Black polyethylene absorbs the ultraviolet that ages a white wall and passes no light to the liquid; it runs warmer than white in the sun, so shade if the chemical must stay cool, and it hides the level, so a sender read at the ground is the gauge. Take 5,000 gallons to the tank sizing calculator against the feed rate and the delivery interval, and the reserve and thermal freeboard from the tank sizing guide.

Three black tanks share this shell at the same weight, and the wall is what separates them: this one is rated 1.5 on its sheet, the C34 carries a heavier rating on its own sheet, and the N46 is the black tank in the other chemical wall, each rated as its own sheet says, with the N40 the white tank in that wall. Pick this one for a light-sensitive liquid no heavier than 1.5. The 5480000N40 puts 4,900 gallons on a 90 inch base at 202 inches for the narrowest pad of all, and the 32372 is the 5,100 gallon white water tank on this base at 159 inches, five inches taller.

3 inches at the base, thirteen feet to the manway

  • Outlet: 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, at the base. Tell us the liquid at order and the fitting is matched to it, with a flanged transition, a flexible connector to hard pipe, and the first valve supported off the pad, never hung on the wall.
  • Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 154 inches up; a platform with a rail for anyone who opens it; a dip tube to the floor for the fill; a vent run outdoors on a liquid that fumes and sized to the delivery pump.
  • Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Nearly thirteen feet of liquid over a 3 inch outlet is a strong flooded suction, stronger than the low 5,000 gives, so a transfer pump below the outlet stays primed further into the tank and the bore drains a full tank in a shift. The extra head also means the fitting and the first valve see more pressure than on a low tank, one more reason the valve sits on its own support and the connector to hard pipe is flexible. A low-level float stops the pump before it draws air. The manway stays closed between deliveries, the wall carries the chemical's name, and the headspace band gets a light at every opening. Where winters freeze, wrap or trace the valve and the first pipe run; the body ices from the top down without harm.

Eastern plants with a tight pad

A water plant in the Appalachian valleys adding a hypochlorite tank where the only free ground is a strip beside the chemical building, a co-op with a fertilizer solution behind the warehouse, and an industrial plant with a tall bay and a narrow chemical alley. When site rules demand a second wall, the Captor double wall freeboard guide works out what a contained tank at this size gives up in usable volume. A fire reserve belongs in a water-rated tank; the fire-water reservoir design guide covers why a chemical wall is the wrong buy for that job. For a reuse train, the industrial water reuse tank topology article places a chemical tank of this size between the storage stages.

Philippi, West Virginia, class 300

The 1002100C37-BLACK ships from Philippi, West Virginia as freight at class 300 as the sheet lists it; at 102 inches across and 154 inches long on the deck it is a permitted load, and the freight cost estimator prices the lane to your ZIP, with the listed price before freight. A crane stands 950 pounds up with straps under the body, never through the manway, and the straps to structure go on before the crane leaves. Fill it with water to the manway once and hold it, watching the pad edge and the outlet fitting for movement or a weep, then drain and dry before the chemical goes in, and after that the log takes the date and strength of every load. A strap that is checked once a season is a strap that holds; put it on the same calendar as the gutters.
