Why the narrow shell

A 102 inch circle is what fits a berm or a tank yard laid out for mid-size tanks, and it is also the width that rides an ordinary flatbed without a wide load permit, which matters on a long lane. So this is the 5,000 gallon tank for a row of tanks on one containment, for replacing a worn tank on an existing pad, or for a site where a wider shell will not go between the wall and the drive. The trade is height: thirteen feet of black cylinder catches wind and is strapped or anchored before the first fill, and the manway is reached from a fixed platform. The buyers are fire reserves at rural buildings, process and wash water at plants, rainwater and reuse collection, and bulk fertilizer or treatment chemical at a blender or a utility. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting low in the wall. Thirteen feet of head keeps a pump flooded to the last few inches; fit a flexible connector to hard pipe and carry the first valve on its own support.
2. Manway. An 18 inch threaded vented manway on top, for the fill hose, a float and cleaning. Keep the vent clear so the pump never pulls a vacuum on the shell.
3. Liquid and temperature. Polyethylene handles water, most fertilizers and many common chemicals to 120 F; ask us about anything aggressive before you order. Where a second wall is required, the double wall freeboard guide works out the usable volume.
