Snyder Industries 5000 Gallon Heavy Duty Vertical Storage Tank

One tanker, low ceiling, heavy liquid

A water plant with a chemical room built under a standard roof, or an ag chemical yard that takes one tanker of acid at a time, buys this tank because the tall 5,000s do not fit the building. At 116 inches it stands under a ten foot roof line, the manway is reached from a step rather than a platform, and at 650 lb it is set with a forklift rather than a crane. A low, wide tank also has the lowest centre of gravity in its class and wants the least restraint, though it still gets strapped before the first fill. The trade is floor: it needs a 120 inch circle of flat, continuous support. Full of water it weighs 5,000 x 8.34 = 41,700 lb plus the tank, and a liquid at the 1.9 rating almost twice that, so the slab follows our concrete pad sizing guide and sits inside a berm where the liquid is regulated. What goes in it

Check the liquid against polyethylene in our chemical compatibility guide before you order and tell us what it is so the outlet fitting is matched to it. White runs cooler in the sun than black, which suits a chemical that gases off when warm, but it passes some light, so a liquid that breaks down in light belongs in the black version of this shell. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting low in the wall. A pump at pad level sees less than ten feet of head at full and a few inches at empty, so set the low level float a little higher than you would on a tall tank, keep the suction line short and straight, and put the strainer where it can be cleaned without draining the run. Support the valve and the first pipe run off the pad and trace or insulate them where winters freeze.
2. Manway. An 18 inch threaded vented manway on top, 116 inches up, reached from a step. Fill through a dip tube to the floor, pipe the vent outside on anything that fumes, and size the vent for the truck's pump.

A forklift with long forks sets 650 lb on the pad with straps under the body, never through the manway. Check the part number 7000500C26 against the bill of lading, look over the floor edge and the outlet fitting, fill it with water the first time and hold it a day, then drain and dry it before the chemical arrives. The vent screen is the cheapest part on the tank and the one that saves it; look at it every time the manway opens.
