550 gallons of chemical storage, sold without a fitting

The Snyder 1800000N52 is a white polyethylene vertical chemical storage tank, 48 inches across and 75 inches tall, holding 550 gallons at 110 pounds. It carries the same 1.9 specific gravity wall as the big chemical tanks, rated for 8,715 pounds of contents against 4,587 for water, and it ships with no outlet fitting installed: the buyer drills the bulkhead where the pump wants it, in the material the chemical calls for, which is how a plant that fits its own tanks prefers to buy. An 18 inch threaded, vented manway on top, and it ships as standard LTL freight.

Replacing a tank that failed? Call 866-418-1777 with what it held and how long it lasted; or check freight to your ZIP and put the 550 gallon tank in your cart above.

A blank tank, on purpose

A factory outlet is at the factory's height, on the factory's side, in polypropylene; a blank tank lets the installer put the bulkhead exactly where the dosing pump sits, in polypropylene, PVDF or a lined fitting as the chemical demands, and add a high-level port or a second outlet, all with a hole saw and a bulkhead kit. What follows is the chemistry the resin is rated to hold; check the liquid at its concentration in the chemical compatibility database, because weight rating and chemical resistance are separate properties, and the fitting material is chosen from the same page. Where every port goes is worth a plan before the first hole: the tank fitting placement strategy guide lays out vent, fill, level and drain so they do not fight each other or the operator. The tank sizing calculator sizes the tank to feed rate and delivery interval, and the tank sizing guide covers the reserve.

The 1800000C126 is the general-grade 550 in this shell with a factory outlet, and the C26-BLACK is the heavier black tank for sun, 30 pounds more. The 32669 is the 500 gallon step down 2 inches shorter, and the 32441 stands 750 gallons of water on this same 48 inch base 31 inches taller.

Openings, and the one you add

  • Outlet: none installed. Drill the bulkhead on a flat of the wall, low enough to drain and high enough to clear sediment, with a hole saw sized to the bulkhead kit; a flexible transition to the pump suction and a valve supported off the floor.
  • Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway; hose or tote pump fill through a dip tube; vent outdoors on a fuming liquid.
  • Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Drill with the tank empty and dry, deburr the hole, and set the bulkhead gasket on the inside of the wall, hand-tight plus a quarter turn; overtightening a bulkhead in polyethylene is the usual first leak. Choose the level sender for the chemical with the level gauge selection guide, and label the tank so the fire inspector and the workplace inspector read the same thing, NFPA 704 diamond and GHS pictograms reconciled as the tank label and signage compliance guide describes. Strap it to a wall; a 48 inch base under 75 inches of dense liquid has a high center of gravity, and a 48 inch tank fits a standard spill pallet.

Turnover and changeover

Size the refill schedule so the tank turns over before the chemical degrades; hypochlorite in particular is bought in small lots often. At changeover, drain through the outlet, rinse through the manway with a wand, drain again, and let it dry before the new fill, because residue from the last product is the usual cause of a cloudy first batch. Log each fill with its date and strength.

Day-to-day duty

Treatment chemicals at a plant that fits its own tanks, acid and inhibitor feed at a cooling tower with a fitting the chemical demands, brine for a softener bank, polymer make-down on a skid, and any two-tote vessel of chemical where the installer wants the outlet on their side. One chemical per tank, labeled.

Chemicals this resin is rated for, with the fitting and gasket to order

These are the chemicals listed for this tank at the concentrations shown. Each links to the full compatibility page; confirm your exact concentration and temperature there or in the chemical compatibility database before ordering.

From the plant to your site

The 1800000N52 ships palletized as LTL freight (NMFC 156600-02) at a class rate; the freight cost estimator quotes it to your ZIP, and what is listed here is the price before freight. Two people carry 110 pounds. Drill and fit the outlet, then strap it, water-fill to the manway and hold it, and drain and dry before the chemical connection is made. Write the fill date on the manway with a paint marker; it answers the first question anyone asks about a tank.

Freight and documents
