A 5,500 gallon black XLPE tank for a small footprint and a high roof
Snyder part number 7020000N46 is a 5,500 gallon vertical storage tank moulded in black crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE), 90 inches in diameter and 221 inches tall, 1,500 lb empty. It puts a lot of liquid on a circle seven and a half feet across, which is why it goes into aisles, containment bays and corners that a wide tank never fits. The wall is rated for liquids up to 1.5 specific gravity: water, most liquid fertilizers and many common treatment chemicals. 5,500 gallons of water weighs 5,500 x 8.34 = 45,870 lb. The top carries an 18 inch threaded vented manway. Snyder puts the service limit at 140 F (60 C), and backs it with a 3 year warranty. Black keeps light off the contents, which slows algae in stored water.

A tall tank is an access structure as much as a tank
At 221 inches the manway is a little over eighteen feet off the pad, so the install includes a caged ladder to a fixed platform with a rail, a permanent fill connection at the top, and a vent and fill line with room above them. The centre of gravity is high, and an empty 1,500 lb shell in a wind is the condition the straps are for: tie it to structure or to anchors cast into the slab before the crane leaves, in the upper part of the shell. The pad carries 45,870 lb of water on a seven and a half foot circle, so pour it to our concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact under the whole floor. What goes in it
Water, liquid fertilizer and the treatment chemicals that crosslinked polyethylene handles at 1.5 specific gravity. Liquids heavier than 1.5 times water need the heavy duty wall in this same shell. Openings and fittings
- Manway. An 18 inch threaded vented manway at the top. Run a dip tube to the floor so the fill stream does not free-fall eighteen feet and foam the headspace, and keep the manway threaded shut between deliveries.
- Outlet. Tell us the liquid, the flow and the pump at order and we confirm the outlet this tank is supplied with before anything is drilled. Mount the transfer pump below the outlet where eighteen feet of head keeps it primed, fit a low level float, and carry the first valve on its own support with a flexible connector to the shell.
- Vent. Sized to the delivery pump and piped outdoors on anything that fumes.
