The duty: the lightest 7,000 on the list

Three kinds of buyer end up on this page. A farm or co-op with a liquid fertilizer solution inside the 1.5 rating and a wide open pad. What unites them is that nothing about the duty is heavy: the 87,570 pounds the rating allows is far more than 7,000 gallons of light chemistry ever weighs, and the 1,400 pounds on the sheet is the lightest empty weight at this volume in the whole range, which shows up as a smaller crane, a shorter rigging job and a set that happens in an afternoon. The delivery is a hose to a manway a little over ten feet up, on a fixed ladder off the molded ladder lugs, with the driver on the ground the whole time. The pad is where the weight goes: 58,380 pounds of water bears across a 142 inch circle, nearly twelve feet, because a molded floor carries on its whole floor, so the slab gets engineered to the concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact, with a berm where the liquid is regulated. Being the lightest tank here has one consequence people forget: empty, it is also the easiest one in the range for wind to move, so it gets banded to structure or slab anchors the day it lands and checked after the first storm. Two walls in the wide 7,000, and what else holds 7,000

The decision in this shell is the rating and nothing else, because the 7,000 gallons, the 142 inch base, the 122 inch height and the 18 inch top are identical across all four part numbers. The 1,400 pound tanks are the lighter walls, this page among them, rated as their own sheets say; the 1,900 pound tanks are the heavy-duty walls for liquids that need them. Do not choose by price alone across those two, because a wall rating is not a feature you can add later. Outside the shell, the 7140000C26 is the choice when the yard is tight and the ceiling is not, at 120 inches across and 153 inches tall, and the 7440000N40 goes vertical with 7,500 gallons on a 102 inch circle. A shallow column, a flooded suction and the float

• Suction: the sheet lists the outlet as 28. It is a field value, not a pipe size, and nothing is inferred from it; give us the liquid, the flow and the pipe material at order and the bulkhead, gasket and bolting are specified to it, with a flexible connector between fitting and hard pipe and the first valve on its own support.
• Prime: 122 inches of liquid is a modest column, so the pump goes below the outlet and close to the tank, with a short straight suction. Get this wrong on a wide, low tank and the pump loses prime at exactly the point in the drawdown where the process still needs flow.
• Low level: less head means less margin, so set the low-level cutout with room to spare, wire it to stop the pump rather than to alarm, and prove it once at commissioning.
• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 122 inches up, with ladder lugs molded in. Fill through a dip tube to the floor, and run the vent outdoors, sized to the delivery pump, on any liquid that fumes.
• Service limit: 140 F / 60 C.

A single flange line is listed on this sheet, so if the piping is going to come off the side there is one line to plan around and it gets planned early. The vent is the other fitting that deserves real thought on a tank taking tanker deliveries: a truck pump moves air out of the headspace faster than a small vent will pass it, and this shell is not a pressure vessel, so size the vent to the pump and not to whatever pipe was lying in the yard. Then the boring discipline that keeps a light-duty tank out of trouble: manway closed between deliveries, one liquid named in paint on the wall, a light on the wall above the liquid line at every opening, and trace or insulation on the valve and the first pipe run where winters bite.

Farms and plants with a low shed and a wide pad

Liquid fertilizer solution at a farm or co-op inside the rating, hypochlorite at a water or wastewater plant that wants volume without a tall tank, caustic and wash solutions at a food or beverage plant, and process or reclaimed water stored dark at an industrial site. A dedicated fire reserve is not this tank's job as bought: that duty carries its own sizing discipline, its own place in the private fire protection stack and its own freeze protection engineering, all of which the fire water reservoir design guide works through. Water itself is far inside the 1.5 rating, so the constraint on a water duty is the specification of the system, not the shell.

The sheet says class 400 on this one

Read the class before you compare prices: this tank ships from Lincoln, Nebraska and its sheet gives the freight class as 400, where the heavy-duty wall in the identical shell is listed a class lower, with the NMFC field blank on both. The sheet gives it and we print what it says. What the carrier needs is the 142 inch diameter, the 122 inch height and the 1,400 pound weight, which together make a wide, light, awkward load rather than a heavy one; the freight cost estimator prices your ZIP and the listed price is before freight. Set it with slings under the body, never a strap through the manway, and because it is light, tie it down on the pad before anything else happens. Hydrostatic test on water to the manway, held, base and fittings watched, then drained and dried. The habit that pays on the cheapest tank in the range is the same as on the dearest: write the part number and the set date in the maintenance file on day one, before the paperwork goes in a drawer. A strap that is checked once a season is a strap that holds; put it on the same calendar as the gutters.
