Who buys this one: ordinary chemistry by the tanker, stored upright in a tall bay

Most of what plants store is not heavier than 1.5. Hypochlorite at a water or wastewater plant. A liquid fertilizer or feed solution at a co-op. Makeup water, rinse water, a surfactant, a polymer solution at a manufacturer that would rather buy in bulk than in totes. That is the duty this molding is built for, and it is the reason it sells more than the heavy wall in the same shell: the 1.5 rating covers the chemistry, and the 2,450 pounds of empty shell is what you set, ship and pay class on. The delivery decides the layout. A tanker pulls to the pad and unloads most of its trailer into one vessel, so the fill connection is landed permanently at the manway platform and the driver never carries a hose up a ladder. Because 7,500 gallons is close to a full delivery, the tank also wants a level device you can read from the ground before the truck arrives, so nobody is guessing at how much room is left while a pump is running. Site work comes next, in this order. The pad carries 62,550 pounds with plain water and 93,825 pounds at the rating the sheet gives, all of it through a 102 inch circle, because a rotationally molded floor bears on its whole floor and nothing else; engineer it against that figure to the concrete pad sizing framework, level and in full contact, with a berm sized to the tank where the liquid is regulated. The building has to clear 234 inches and then give room above the manway for a fill line, a vent and a body. And the wind gets the bands: a shell of 2,450 pounds standing nineteen and a half feet on an eight and a half foot base is lighter than the heavy wall in this mold and therefore easier for a gust to move, so the strapping goes to structure or to cast-in anchors on the day it lands and gets a tension check after the first storm. One tall shell, several wall ratings, and the wide 7,000 beside it

Buy this molding when the chemistry sits at or near water weight and the footprint is fixed. The 7440000N42 and 7440000N48 are the heavier pair in the identical shell at 3,000 pounds empty, each rated as its own sheet says, and they are the buy for a brine or a concentrate rather than for this duty; taking one of them for an ordinary solution means paying for density nobody is going to use. The 7440000N46 is the other 2,450 pound molding in the mold and is listed on its own page with its own rating. If the constraint turns out to be the ceiling instead of the floor, the picture changes completely: the 5300700N40 and 5300700C26 hold their volume on a 142 inch circle just 122 inches tall, ten feet two inches, which fits under a shed roof this tank cannot get near.

Priming a transfer pump under a nineteen foot column

• Pump and prime, first, because the height of this shell is a gift and most installs waste it. A transfer pump set below the base connection is gravity primed for the whole working range of the tank and stays flooded down to the last few inches; the same pump set level with the connection, or above it, needs a foot valve and a person with a bucket every time the line drains back.
• Suction line: short, straight, one size up rather than one size down, and sloped continuously toward the pump so it cannot hold an air pocket. Nineteen and a half feet of head will forgive a lot, but it will not forgive a high spot in the suction.
• Low-level cutout: a float or probe that stops the pump before it pulls air, wired so the pump cannot be restarted into an empty tank by someone who did not look at the gauge.
• Outlet, as published and not as a pipe size: the sheet lists the outlet as 23 and gives no bottom fitting diameter, material, thread or gasket anywhere on it. We print the field and invent nothing. Tell us the liquid and the draw-off arrangement at order and we confirm what the shell takes.
• Access: an 18 inch threaded, vented manway 234 inches up, which means a platform with a rail and a gate, a permanent fill connection, and a lid that goes back on threaded rather than laid over the hole.
• Fill and vent: a dip tube to the floor to keep the incoming stream from foaming the headspace, a vent taken outdoors on anything that fumes, sized to the truck's pump. Handling and hardware as listed: 8 lifting lugs, 2 flange lines. Service limit 140 F / 60 C, warranty 3 year, rating specific gravity 1.5 as the sheet gives it.

The first valve on the base connection sits on its own support off the pad, with a flexible element between the tank and the hard pipe. This is the detail that shortens tank lives: a rigid run bolted to the shell hands it every pump start and every temperature swing, and a shell is not a pipe anchor. Where the site freezes, the trace heat and the insulation go on the base piping and the first valve rather than on the body, which takes ice from the top down without harm. Stand it up on the lugs with straps under the body, never a sling through the manway, set it on a pad that has cured, and band it before the crane is released rather than after the weekend.
