8,000 gallons on the same ten foot pad as the 6,500

The Snyder 32465 is an 8,000 gallon vertical water tank in green high density linear polyethylene, 120 inches in diameter and 183 inches tall, 1,547 pounds empty. Snyder builds its big verticals on a shared 120 inch base and adds height for volume, so this tank stands on the same footprint as the 6,500 gallon 32429 and simply goes 31 inches higher. It is rated for a specific gravity of 1.0: water, and liquids no heavier than water.

Is this the right 8000 gallon tank? Call 866-418-1777 with the liquid, the site and the ceiling height, or get freight to your ZIP and add it to your cart above.

Fifteen feet tall: what that asks of the site

Full, the 32465 holds 66,720 pounds of water on 120 inches of floor. That load wants a slab designed by the ACI 360R-10 method in the concrete pad sizing guide, and the slab wants to be level, because 183 inches of tank magnifies any tilt at the base. Empty, 1,547 pounds of shell with that much sail area needs to be strapped or ballasted before the first storm. And the 26 inch manway is 183 inches off the ground, so every inspection is a ladder job; plan the tie-off point when you plan the pad. If the volume is not yet fixed, the tank sizing calculator will tell you whether 8,000 gallons is the number or whether two smaller tanks fit the site better.

Up and down the 120 inch family

The 32463 is the same tank from the same mold; compare the color and fittings on each page and take the one your site wants. Going down to the 32429 saves 31 inches of height and 363 pounds for 1,500 fewer gallons. Going up to the 32034 is a different idea: Snyder widens the base to 142 inches and drops the height to 166.5 inches, so 10,000 gallons is actually 16.5 inches shorter than this 8,000, at the cost of a pad nearly two feet wider.

Comparing across brands too? Call 866-418-1777; we carry Norwesco, Snyder, Chem-Tainer, Enduraplas and Bushman and will say which one fits, or price the freight first.

Fittings on the tank

  • Inlet: 1-1/2 inch bulkhead fitting near the top.
  • Outlet: 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the base.
  • Access: 26 inch threaded, vented manway.
  • Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Fifteen feet of water column over a 2 inch outlet gives a strong gravity feed, enough to run a long drip line or fill troughs without a pump. For level, a hydrostatic sender at the outlet is the practical choice on a tank this tall; the level gauge selection guide explains why, and what a top-mounted ultrasonic unit costs you in ladder time.

Where 8,000 gallons goes to work

This is a fire reserve for a rural home, a ranch or a small commercial property, and the fire-water reservoir design guide shows how a polyethylene tank of this size is specified under NFPA 22 and protected from freezing. On an industrial site it is the aggregation vessel for roof water, grey water and HVAC condensate, as laid out in the industrial water reuse tank topology article. For irrigation and stock water, the tank sizing guide converts 8,000 gallons into days of supply at your draw.

Freight, unloading, first fill

At 120 inches across and 183 inches long on the deck, the 32465 is oversize freight (NMFC 156600) on a flatbed at a lane rate; get that rate for your ZIP from the freight cost estimator. The listed price is before freight. You need a machine to lift 1,547 pounds off the truck and a pad ready to take it the same day. Then fill in stages, watching the pad and every fitting, exactly as the hydrostatic test methodology guide describes; on a tank this tall, the first fill is the only cheap time to find a problem.
