Strap it before you fill it

Nine feet nine inches of tank on a four foot base is the tallest shape for its footprint in this batch, and it is the reason to buy it: 850 gallons where the floor allows a pallet and the roof allows ten feet. It is also the reason the strapping comes first. Empty it weighs 220 pounds with its center of gravity at chest height, and a forklift bump or a door left open on a windy day puts it on its side; a band to the wall or to a post at the top third goes on before the first fill, not after, and it is checked after the first hot month, because a warm black wall grows and loosens what was tight. Full at the rating it carries 13,469 pounds on a four foot circle, a heavier load per square foot than the wide tanks in this size, so the slab is engineered to the concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact, inside a berm sized to the tank where the liquid is regulated. Check the roof line with the vent and fill lines drawn in; at 117 inches to the manway there is little room under a ten foot ceiling, and the manway is opened from a platform or a ladder with a rail, not a step. The cross-linked wall gives a warm liquid margin the non-cross-linked tank in this shell does not, each rated as its own sheet says, and the black resin keeps light off it, but a black wall in the sun runs warmer than the liquid inside it, so this tank belongs indoors or in shade. Tall on 48 inches, or wide on 60 and 68

Four walls share the 48 by 117 inch shell. This one is black and cross-linked for a hot, light-sensitive liquid; the 1810000N42 is the same cross-linked wall in white for a warm liquid that does not mind light and an operator who wants to see the level; the 1810000N51 is the black tank in polyethylene that is not cross-linked, with a lower limit on its own sheet, for a cool liquid; the 1810000C34 is the other black chemical wall, listed at 210 pounds where the rest of the shell is 220, which the sheet gives and we print, each rated as its own sheet says. If the roof is the problem, the 5990900N42 lays 750 gallons on a 68 inch base at 66 inches, and the 1831000C34 puts 1,000 gallons in black on a five foot circle at 89 inches. An outlet under ten feet of dense liquid

• Outlet: the sheet lists one opening, the manway; the bulkhead outlet is fitted at order to the pump and pipe you name, in the material the liquid calls for, with a flexible connector to hard pipe and the first valve supported off the pad.
• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 117 inches up; a platform or a ladder with a rail for whoever opens it; a dip tube to the floor for the fill; a vent run outdoors on a liquid that fumes and sized to the delivery pump.
• Service limit: 140 F / 60 C.

Ten feet of liquid at a specific gravity of 1.9 puts more pressure on the bottom fitting than any other tank of this volume in the family, nearly twice what water would at the same height. That is the fact that sizes the outlet here: name the pump at order, and the bulkhead, its gasket and its bolting are matched to the liquid and to that pressure, with a flexible connector so a rigid pipe run never carries thermal movement into the wall, and a warm wall moves more than a cool one. The head is an asset for the pump, which stays flooded to the last few inches if it sits below the outlet; a low-level float stops it before it draws air. The lid stays shut between deliveries, the wall carries the name of the one chemical inside, and the headspace band, the warm part of a warm tank, gets a light at every opening.

Hot chemical on a pallet's worth of floor

A warm caustic or acid day tank at a food, dairy or beverage plant with a cleaning-in-place system, a process chemical that comes off a reactor above room temperature at a small chemical or coatings plant, a hot brine at a processor, and a blend tank at a distributor whose floor is already full. The tall shape is the one that goes between two machines or against a column; the cross-linked wall is what lets it take the liquid warm.

A forklift with straps under the body stands 220 pounds up, never through the manway, and the band to the wall goes on before the forklift leaves, because this is not a tank that stands unstrapped for a week. Fill it with water to the manway once and hold it, watching the pad edge and the outlet fitting, then drain and dry before the chemical arrives. Mark the vent and the outlet on the outside of the shell, and check the band a week after the first fill, because a tank settles a little and the band that was tight is loose. Tape a copy of the spec sheet inside the control panel door; the next person to touch the tank will not have the box it came in.
