Wide and low: the pad does the work, not the strapping

Read the site in this order and this tank explains itself. Height first: 146 inches is a little over twelve feet, which clears a shed roof, a low chemical building, an equipment bay framed for a forklift mast, and it puts the manway where a short fixed ladder reaches instead of a tower. Wind second: a squat tank on a 142 inch base has little sail area and a low center of gravity, so it is the easiest shape in this family to keep standing, though it still gets banded while it is empty because 2,400 pounds walks on an open pad. Ground third, and this is where the money goes: full at the rating there are 138,652 pounds on a twelve foot circle, and a rotationally molded floor bears on everything it touches and nothing else, so the slab is engineered to the concrete pad sizing guide, level, in full contact, and sized for the dense case rather than the 72,975 pound water figure. A wide tank on a pad with one low corner puts its whole load on that corner, which is the failure a wide tank actually has. Where the liquid is regulated it sits inside a berm sized to the tank, and a wide tank needs a wider berm than a tall one at the same volume, which is a cost worth knowing before the concrete is ordered. The black wall passes no light to the liquid and hides the level, so a sender read at grade is the gauge. Inside the low shell, this is the tank for a dense liquid: it is the 1.9 wall at 2,400 pounds empty, matched on weight by the N42 which the sheet also lists at 2,400, where the N40 and the N46 are listed at 2,000 pounds and are each rated as their own sheets say. Buy one of those two if the liquid is no heavier than water and save the wall. The real choice, though, is shape. The 7400000N40 and the 7400000C26 put 8,500 and 8,900 gallons on a 120 inch base at 194 inches, sixteen feet, which is forty-eight inches taller than this tank on twenty-two inches less diameter: they win when floor is scarce, and this one wins when the roof is low, when a forklift has to work around the tank, or when nobody wants to climb sixteen feet to open a manway in February.

A low tank gives a pump less to work with, and that is the one real trade in this shape. Twelve feet of head is less than the tall 8,500s hand you, so the transfer pump goes below the outlet where gravity primes it, the suction run is kept short and straight, and a low level float stops the pump before it draws air rather than after. A dense liquid still loads the base fitting hard, so the connector to hard pipe is flexible, the first valve rides on its own support off the pad, and a spare gasket lives on the shelf. The compensation is the access: a manway at 146 inches is opened safely and often, which means people actually inspect this tank. Keep the lid shut between deliveries anyway so vapor stays in and rain stays out, name the one liquid on the wall, and put a light on the band of wall above the liquid line at every opening.

Heavy liquid under a low chemical building

The buyer for this one has a roof problem and a density problem at once: a treatment plant whose chemical room was framed for drums and now needs 8,750 gallons of a dense coagulant, a co-op holding a heavy fertilizer blend under a shed, a processor on a concentrated liquid inside a building with a crane rail overhead, a site where the forklift traffic makes a sixteen foot tank a hazard rather than an asset. The 1.9 rating is why it is this tank and not a lighter wall, and the 146 inch height is why it is not the tall one. 2,400 pounds on the deck, class 300

The 5360100N51 is molded at Lincoln, Nebraska and moves as freight at class 300 as the sheet lists it. The number that matters on delivery day is the 142 inches of diameter: a tank wider than it is tall rides high and wide on the deck and is handled from the side, so check the gate width, the overhead lines and the swing of the turn onto the pad before the truck is booked, not while it is idling. A crane or a machine with long forks sets 2,400 pounds down with straps under the body, never a hook in the manway, landing it in full contact on the slab. Water test before product: fill to the manway, hold it a shift, and read the base, the pad edge and the fitting you specified at order, then drain and dry. Walk the full circumference of the base with a flashlight after that first fill, because on a twelve foot circle the low corner is the thing you can find on foot.
