Height is the whole design problem
Everything about this tank follows from the ratio of its height to its base. Full at the rating it puts 122,598 pounds on a 120 inch circle, the heaviest load per square foot in Snyder's line, so the slab is engineered per the concrete pad sizing guide, not poured by rule of thumb. Empty, eighteen feet of polyethylene on a ten foot base is a sail, so it is strapped or cabled to structure before the first fill and the straps are checked after the first windy week. The manway is opened from a platform with a rail, and the level is read at the ground by a sender, because nobody is climbing eighteen feet to look. Bulkhead below, manway above
- Outlet: 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, at the base; a flanged transition, a flexible connector between the bulkhead and hard pipe, and the valve supported off the pad in the material the liquid calls for.
- Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 215 inches up; a platform with a rail for anyone who opens it. Dip tube to the floor on the fill, vent to the outside on anything that gives off gas, and a vent big enough for the delivery pump.
- Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
Eighteen feet of liquid above a 3 inch outlet is the strongest flooded suction in the family, and the outlet drains a full tank in a working shift; the pump sits below the outlet and primes itself, and a low-level float stops it before the tank runs dry. The headspace above the liquid is where the wall sees the most chemistry on a chemical tank; inspect from the manway with a light. Where it freezes, insulate or trace the outlet valve and the first pipe run; the body takes ice from the top down without harm.
