When 1.5 is the honest rating

This is the lighter of the two wall weights in the 5360100 mold, and for most duties it is the right one. The 5360100N42 is the same 142 by 146 inch shell at 2,400 pounds with a heavier rating on its own sheet, which is wall for a brine or a concentrate. This molding weighs 2,000 pounds and the sheet allows 109,462 pounds of contents on a 1.5 rating, which covers hypochlorite, a feed or fertilizer solution, a rinse liquid, process water, and very nearly everything else that gets stored in bulk. Lighter also means cheaper to lift, cheaper to freight, and easier to set. What both moldings share is the shape, and the shape is the reason to be in this mold at all: 8,750 gallons that only needs 146 inches of clear height, so it goes into a building whose purlins would stop a tall tank at the door. Low and wide is also the quietest shape on a windy site, with a centre of gravity under a person's shoulder and a manway reached from a short platform. The bill for that comes due at the slab. A rotationally molded floor bears on its whole floor and nothing else, so 72,975 pounds of water, or 109,462 pounds at this rating, is carried by the 142 inch circle alone, and a wide tank on a pad with a low corner loads that corner. Engineer it to the concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact, inside a berm sized to the tank where the liquid is regulated, and strap the shell while it is empty even though the wind has less to grip. Natural white passes a little daylight but gives no calibrated reading, so a level device is part of the install rather than next year's project, and the level gauge selection article sorts out which kind holds up in which service. The wide 8,750 against the tall 8,500 and 8,900

Four part numbers come out of this one mold at the same volume and the same dimensions, listed separately, each rated as its own sheet says. This molding and the 5360100N46 are the 2,000 pound pair and they are the buy for chemistry at or near water weight; the 5360100N42 and 5360100N48 add wall and shipping weight for density. The other two rows are the same volume class in the opposite shape, and they are the honest comparison to make before ordering: the 7400000N40 and 7400000C26 stand 194 inches on a 120 inch base, so they want half the floor and a great deal more height, plus a platform and more strapping. Sites that have the floor buy the low mold, sites that have the ceiling buy the tall one, and the ones that have neither end up sizing down in volume instead.

Fill rate, vent size and a manway you reach from a step

• Vent, first: the listed opening is an 18 inch threaded, vented manway, and the vent gets sized to the pump on the delivery truck. Air leaves at the rate liquid arrives, and that rate does not care that this shell is wide; a vent chosen because it was the port already there is the usual reason a routine fill pressurises a tank built for atmosphere.
• Fill: a dip tube run to the floor, so the stream does not drop twelve feet through the vapour space, foam the headspace and coat the upper wall. That band above the liquid line is where wall thickness matters most and where a liquid-side inspection never looks, which the vapor-saturated headspace wall thickness article lays out.
• Outlet: the sheet lists the outlet as 28, printed as published and not a pipe size. No bottom fitting diameter, material or thread is given anywhere on this sheet and none is invented here. Tell us the liquid and the draw-off you want at order and we confirm what the shell accepts, in what material and with what gasket.
• Access and hardware as listed: ladder lugs and two flange lines, with the manway at 146 inches reached from a short fixed platform with a rail rather than a leaning ladder.
• Service limit: 140 F / 60 C. Warranty: 3 year. Rating: specific gravity 1.5 as the sheet gives it.

Because the manway is within reach on a low tank, this is the shape people open too often, and every opening is a chance to let rain, dust or a second liquid in. Keep the lid threaded shut between deliveries, keep one liquid to one tank with its name on the wall where a driver reads it from the cab, and light the headspace band rather than feeling for trouble. At the base, the first valve rides on its own support off the pad with a flexible element between the tank and hard pipe; a low tank has less head to prime a pump with, so put the pump below the connection and fit a low-level float so it stops before it draws air. Where winters freeze, the valve and the first pipe run get the trace heat and the insulation; the body takes ice from the top down without harm.

Water plants with height restrictions and tanker deliveries

Municipal water and wastewater plants with a low chemical building and hypochlorite arriving by the tanker are the core buyer here, along with co-ops storing feed or fertilizer solution under a shed roof, food and beverage plants that need bulk process water in a room with ductwork overhead, and greenhouses where the structure will not take a tall vessel. The volume is enough to take most of a delivery in one shell, and the 1.5 rating covers the chemistry that actually shows up. Plain water at 8.34 pounds per gallon is well inside it. Wide load, class 300, and the first water fill

The sheet gives class 300 out of Lincoln, Nebraska at 2,000 pounds shipping weight, and 2,000 pounds is the easy part. At 142 inches across this is a load handled outside the trailer, priced on the lane and the equipment rather than on the scale ticket, so the number comes from the freight cost estimator with your ZIP in it and the listed price is before freight. Set it with straps under the body, never a sling through the manway, onto a slab that has cured, and band it before the crane is released. Then the water fill: to the manway, held, with someone walking the full pad edge twice, then drained and dried before the working liquid arrives, on the schedule in the hydrostatic test methodology article. Keep one spare gasket for the base connection on the shelf from day one, because that is the part that lets go on a holiday weekend. Photograph the outlet fitting from below before the pipe goes on; a slow weep is easier to compare against than to describe.
