Low and wide: where this version fits
The decision between the two 250 gallon doorway tanks is made overhead. This one stands 44 inches and takes 62 by 29 inches of floor; the other version is narrower and ten inches taller. Choose this one where headroom is the constraint: under a basement window, under a workbench or a shelf, in a crawl space with a full-height access door, under the low side of a lean-to roof. The manway sits at a height anyone can open and look into without a step. Full of water it is 2085 lb on 62 by 29 inches, which a concrete floor carries without thought, while a raised wood floor wants a look underneath before the first fill. What goes in it
Water is the normal load: an emergency reserve, a well holding tank, rainwater from a roof, wash water in a shop. The white wall lets you see the level through it in good light. The 1.5 specific gravity rating, a maximum of 12.52 lb per gallon, means it will also hold most liquid fertilizers and common solutions that polyethylene handles. Keep the contents under 120 F. For drinking water, keep the lid closed and the tank out of direct sun; light grows algae in standing water. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 1-1/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the wall. A valve, a hose adapter or a pump suction threads straight into it. Support the valve and the first length of pipe so the fitting carries water, not hardware.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top: wide enough to fill from a hose, to drop a float switch in, and to get an arm and a brush inside to clean. The vent lets air in as the tank drains, so never seal it.
