130 Gallon Vertical Liquid Storage Tank

Where it goes

At 32 inches across and 46 inches tall this tank stands in a plant room, a wash bay, a well house, a greenhouse or a barn without dominating the space, and the lid sits at chest height so a hose fill needs no step. It is a tank for a day's supply: make-up water for a boiler or a cooling tower, rinse water, a nutrient or fertilizer tank, a rainwater or well water holding tank, or a water tank in a service trailer. Thirty-two inches is wider than a standard doorway, so measure the opening it has to pass through; it will go through most double doors and any roll-up door upright. Full of water it puts about 1080 lb on a 32 inch circle, and a rotationally moulded base bears on everything it touches and nothing else, so it wants a flat, continuous, level surface under the whole base: a slab, a solid deck or a full sheet of plywood over joists.

What goes in it

Water, liquid fertilizer, wash water and the treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 1-1/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. Thread a 1-1/4 inch valve straight in. Dry-fit it so the handle clears the wall, seal the threads, and support the first length of pipe on its own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
2. Lid. An 8 inch threaded vented lid. Wide enough for a hose, a float switch or a small pump inlet; the vent lets air in as the tank drains so the walls are never pulled inward.
