What a 300 gallon mixing cone is for

Three hundred gallons is a full day of fertilizer blending, a bulk make-up of a treatment chemical for a dosing system, or a product held and drawn off the bottom until the tank is clean for the next one. A 45 degree cone is the all-round mixing angle: it drains cleaner than the 15 and 30 degree storage cones and keeps the tank shorter than the steepest inductor cones. At 48 inches across and 56 inches tall this is a wide tank rather than a tall one, so a mixer has a broad surface to work and the manway stays within reach from a step once the tank is on its stand. What goes in it

Water, liquid fertilizer and the common farm and treatment chemicals are the normal loads. Check anything else in our chemical compatibility guide before the first fill; urea solution, calcium chloride, aluminum sulfate, sodium carbonate and acetic acid are the entries cone tank buyers open most. Liquids heavier than 1.5 times water need a heavier rated tank. Keep the contents under 120 F. Openings, fittings and what to check before you buy

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the point of the cone. A ball valve threads straight in. Fit it before the first fill and support the valve and the first length of pipe so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
2. Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top, for bags, a mixer shaft and a cleaning brush.
3. The stand. Norwesco pairs this tank with stand N-63933. A 45 degree cone sits in a 45 degree cradle of the right diameter and nothing else; give us the part number of any stand you already own and we will tell you whether it fits.
4. Floor and clearance. A full tank on its stand is a concentrated load of well over a ton with water in it. The floor under the stand must be flat, level and continuous, and the space under the outlet must take the valve and whatever you draw into.
