What a 500 gallon cone on a stand is for

Five hundred gallons is bulk make-up: a fertilizer blend for a large applicator, a treatment chemical mixed once and metered out for days, a process or wash solution held where it is used and drawn from the bottom until the tank is clean. The cone sends the last of the batch and any sediment to the outlet, so the tank changes duty without being scraped out. At 87 inches overall the manway is well above head height, so plan a platform or a fill line and a vent arrangement before the tank arrives rather than after. What goes in it

Water, liquid fertilizer and the common farm and treatment chemicals are the normal loads. Openings, fittings and what to check before you buy

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the point of the cone. A ball valve threads straight in. Fit it before the first fill and support the valve and the first length of pipe so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
2. Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top, for bags, a mixer shaft and a cleaning brush, reached from a platform at this height.
3. Footprint and floor. Forty-nine inches across. The stand needs a flat, level, continuous floor under all of it, with no drain, joint or slope beneath. A full tank is a concentrated load of about two tons with water in it and more with fertilizer; the floor rating is your installer's call, not this page's.
4. Clearance. Measure the ceiling, the doorway the assembly goes through, and the space under the outlet for the valve, hose or container you will draw into.
