This tank trades height for floor. On a 96 inch base and 109 inches tall, it fits between a house and a fence line, beside a barn door or on a pad poured for something smaller, and the taller column of water gives the outlet a little more head for a gravity line or a pump suction. The lid is about nine feet up, so plan a ladder or a fill line from the ground.

The black wall keeps sunlight out, which is the simplest way to keep algae out of stored water, especially in the heat of the South. The 26 inch manway leaves room to reach inside for cleaning, to set a submersible pump or a float, and to inspect the floor. Typical jobs: a house or cabin on hauled water, a well reserve, rainwater off a roof, livestock water and a rural fire reserve. Openings and what to check before you buy

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting low on the wall. A valve or pump suction threads straight in; support it on its own so the fitting carries water, not hardware.
2. Inlet. A 1-1/2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting for a fill line from the ground or a downspout.
3. Manway. A 26 inch threaded vented manway, kept closed and secured against dirt, insects and animals.
4. Level. A black wall hides the water line, so plan a float gauge or level sensor.
5. Pad and anchoring. 25,020 lb of water on a 96 inch circle needs a flat, continuous base wider than the tank. A tall, light tank catches wind when empty; tie it down before the first storm.
