What a Delta farm or plant buys a wide 3000 for

Follow the duty and the plant follows with it. The buyers for this tank are in the Mid-South and the lower Mississippi valley, where the water jobs are large and flat: a row-crop farm filling a spray rig and a chemical-mix trailer from one pad, a catfish or poultry operation holding wash and flush water, a grain or processing plant with a wash-down line and a slow supply, a district yard holding hydrant test water, an irrigation district buffering a canal turnout into a pump. The tank is 96 inches tall, exactly eight feet, which is the practical ceiling of a great many open-sided farm buildings, machine sheds and fertilizer barns in that country, and on a 102 inch base it keeps the whole vessel below the eave line and below the wind. The closest thing on this sheet to this tank is the 32781, a black straight wall on the same 102 inch base an inch taller and listed at 350 lb, and the choice between them is wall colour and weight as the sheet gives them: green for a tank that has to sit quietly in a farmyard and keep daylight off the water, black straight wall for the lighter figure. Step in one size of base and the 96 by 109 inch pair stand better than a foot taller for six inches less floor, the green SII-32569 at 427 lb and the black SII-32567 at 382 lb, which is the buy where floor is scarce and height is free. The 2600 gallon SII-WG62 and the 3500 gallon SII-32294 are the volume steps either side, the larger one standing 125 inches. A threaded bulkhead instead of a bolted fitting, and what that changes at the pump

• The pump: eight feet of water over the base is good suction head, and the way to keep it is a pump set below the outlet on its own base, with a short, straight, slightly falling run into the suction port. Do that and the column primes the pump and holds it flooded to the last inches; set the pump level with the tank and the same installation loses prime at the end of every fill.
• Prime and protection: a cleanable strainer before the pump, a check valve where the line lifts, and a low level float, probe or run-dry cut-out that stops the pump with water still over the fitting. On a farm tank the operator is filling a rig against the clock, so make the protection automatic rather than procedural.
• Outlet: a 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the base, as the sheet lists it. A threaded outlet is a different discipline from a bolted one: make the thread up once, correctly, with the right sealant for the water and the fitting, then put a union or a flange a short way downstream so any valve change happens there and never on the tank fitting.
• Inlet: a 1-1/2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, which is where a tanker or a well line lands so a delivery is not falling into the manway from the top of the shell.
• Access: an 18 inch threaded vented manway on top, 96 inches up, which means a step or a short platform for anyone opening it. Keep it closed against dust and birds, and keep the vent clear, because a blocked vent with a pump drawing will pull the wall in.

The rest is the pipework discipline a wide tank always needs: a flexible connector on the first joint so thermal movement and pump starts do not land on the bulkhead, the first valve carried on its own support off the pad, and no rigid line set in concrete right up to the wall. On a pad where machinery turns, put a bollard or a kerb between the traffic and the outlet, because the fitting is the only fragile thing on the tank and a trailer tongue finds it. Freeze protection goes on the valve and the exposed run. Livestock water, spray fill and plant wash water

The SII-WG71 is molded at Marked Tree, Arkansas and ships at class 500 as the sheet lists it, crated at 102 inches by 102 inches by 96 inches, moving as an oversize load. Eight and a half feet of width is the constraint rather than the 515 pounds: the truck needs somewhere to stop, the gate needs to be wider than the tank, and the approach needs to be firm enough that a loaded trailer does not sink into a field entrance after rain, which in the Delta is a real question for half the year.
