The Norwesco 1250 gallon one compartment low profile septic tank, part number 43519, is a green polyethylene septic tank 157 inches long, 60 inches wide and 51 inches tall, weighing 387 lb empty. The low profile body is made for a shallow excavation, which keeps the dig and the backfill small and matters where rock or groundwater sits close to the surface. It is a single chamber tank, the plain layout for a system that does not call for two compartments. The plumbing ships loose: a 4 inch gasketed PVC tee assembly for the inlet and another for the outlet, which the installer fits on site so the tees line up with the pipe runs as they are actually dug. Where a one compartment 1250 fits
A 1250 gallon tank is a common size for a three or four bedroom house where the local code sizes on bedrooms, and the one compartment version is what many jurisdictions still specify for a conventional tank and drainfield. Where the design calls for two compartments, Norwesco builds the same body as a 1250 gallon two compartment tank with loose plumbing, and the designer's drawing, not the price, decides which you need. The permit comes from the county or state health department, and the first question is whether this model is on their approved list; Norwesco's approval list for this part number is state by state, so give us your state and we confirm before you order. Openings, plumbing and what to check before you buy
- Inlet and outlet. A 4 inch gasketed PVC tee assembly at each end, shipped loose. The gasket seals the pipe in the tank wall; the tee drops the flow below the scum layer on the inlet and holds solids back on the outlet. Fit them before the tank goes in the hole, with the inlet tee turned to the house line and the outlet tee to the drainfield line.
- Manway. A 20 inch gasketed manway for pumping and inspection. If the tank is buried deeper than the manway reaches, a riser brings the lid to grade; tell us the burial depth and we quote one with the tank.

Setting it
Follow Norwesco's installation instructions and the conditions on your permit. The rules every polyethylene septic tank shares: dig to the drawing, bed the tank on a level, rock free base, fill it with water as you backfill so the walls are supported from both sides, and keep vehicles off the area for good. In wet ground an empty tank wants to float, so do not leave it empty in an open hole overnight. Have the inspector see the tank set and the plumbing connected before the backfill covers it.
