The Norwesco 1250 gallon preplumbed two compartment low profile septic tank, part number 43501, is a green polyethylene septic tank 157 inches long, 60 inches wide and 51 inches tall, weighing 423 lb empty. Preplumbed means the inlet and outlet, a 4 inch adapter with a PVC tee assembly at each end, are installed at the factory, so the tank arrives ready to connect and the installer has nothing to fit in the hole. The internal baffle divides it into two chambers, the first settling solids and the second sending clearer liquid on to the drainfield. The low profile body goes into a shallow excavation. Access is a 20 inch gasketed manway. Norwesco lists the tank as IAPMO approved, rates it to 130 F and backs it with a 5 year warranty. Full of water it holds 10425 lb.

Where it is approved and why preplumbed
Norwesco's state septic approval list for part number 43501 names Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Washington. A state approval is not a permit: the county or state health department issues that against the system design, so confirm the model with them before you dig. If your state is not on that list, the same two compartment body ships with loose plumbing under other part numbers, and we point you at the right one. Preplumbed is the choice when the crew setting the tank is not the crew that plumbs, when the inspector wants factory fitted tees, or when you simply want fewer parts to lose on a job site; the loose plumbing version is the choice when the pipe runs are awkward and the tees need turning on site. Openings and what to check before you buy
- Inlet and outlet. A 4 inch adapter with a PVC tee assembly at each end, factory installed. Your 4 inch house line and drainfield line connect to them; the tees are already set, so the excavation has to put the tank where the pipe can meet it.
- Manway. A 20 inch gasketed manway for pumping and inspection. If the burial puts the lid below grade, a riser brings it up; tell us the depth and we quote one with the tank.
- Pipe falls. The inlet sits higher than the outlet, so the house line and the drainfield line are set to the tank. Our compartment guide and Norwesco's instructions cover the rest.

Setting it
Follow Norwesco's installation instructions and the conditions on your permit. Dig to the drawing, bed the tank on a level, rock free base, fill it with water as you backfill so the walls are supported from both sides, and keep vehicles off the area for good. In wet ground an empty tank wants to float, so do not leave it empty in an open hole overnight. Have the inspector see the tank set and the lines connected before the backfill covers it.
