A one compartment tank is the simpler install and the usual choice where the local code accepts it and the system has a separate effluent filter or a treatment unit downstream. Openings, plumbing and what to check before you buy

1. Inlet and outlet. Both are 4 inch, each a gasket with a tee assembly, supplied loose. Your crew seats the gaskets and sets the tees on site, which lets them orient the inlet and outlet to the pipe runs as dug. 2. The lid. One 20 inch opening on top. Plan the riser to grade from that opening so the tank can be pumped without digging.
3. Depth of bury. The tank is 51 inches tall. Add the riser height and the cover depth your code requires and compare that to the invert of the building sewer, so the inlet falls into the tank rather than toward the house. 4. Temperature. Norwesco rates the tank to 130 F. Household waste is well under that; a commercial kitchen or a process discharge may not be.

Shipping, receiving and setting

Have the hole open and the bedding ready when the truck is due, because a 549 lb tank is easier to lift once than to stage twice. At the tailgate, check the part number against 43540, look inside for the loose tee assemblies and gaskets, and walk the shell for transit damage before signing. Set the tank on a level bed of compacted sand or pea gravel, never on rock or clods, and follow Norwesco's installation instructions for filling with water as you backfill so the pressure inside the tank keeps pace with the soil outside.
