Where it is approved and where it fits

This is the broadly approved version of Norwesco's 1500 gallon two compartment tank. Norwesco's state septic approval list for part number 43504 names Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming. A state approval is not a permit: the county or state health department issues that against the system design, so confirm the model with them before you dig. A 1500 gallon tank is the step up from 1250 where the code sizes on bedrooms or on a garbage disposal, or where a longer interval between pumpings is wanted. Openings, plumbing and what to check before you buy

1. Inlet and outlet. A 4 inch gasketed PVC tee assembly at each end, shipped loose. The gasket seals the pipe in the tank wall; the tee drops the inflow below the scum layer and holds solids back at the outlet. Fit them before the tank goes in the hole, the inlet tee turned to the house line and the outlet tee to the drainfield line.
2. Manway. A 20 inch gasketed manway for pumping and inspection. If the burial puts the lid below grade, a riser brings it up; tell us the depth and we quote one with the tank.
3. Pipe falls. The inlet sits higher than the outlet, so the house line and the drainfield line are set to the tank. Our tank plumbing walkthrough covers the tie in.

Setting it

Follow Norwesco's installation instructions and the conditions on your permit. Dig to the drawing, bed the tank on a level, rock free base, fill it with water as you backfill so the walls are supported from both sides, and keep vehicles off the area for good. In wet ground an empty tank wants to float, so do not leave it empty in an open hole overnight. Have the inspector see the tank set and the plumbing connected before the backfill covers it.
