The Norwesco 1625 Gallon HDPE Horizontal Leg Tank is a blue, high density linear polyethylene horizontal tank built for transport and applicator duty where a low, stable center of gravity matters. Measuring 139 inches long by 63 inches wide by 68 inches tall, it carries 1,625 gallons within a 63.0 x 139.0 inch footprint, and its integrally molded legs and contoured bottom are shaped to cradle the tank in a steel applicator frame or skid for over-the-road and field use. See the technical drawing on this page for the molded leg and fitting layout.

Will it work for your load?

This Norwesco horizontal leg tank carries a 1.9 specific gravity rating, so it is engineered to haul liquids well beyond plain water. Filled with water, the contents weigh about 13,552 pounds; at the full 1.9 SG rating the tank is rated to carry up to 25,750 pounds of contents. Treat 25,750 pounds as a hard ceiling: do not exceed it, because at 1.9 SG that figure is your axle and frame limit, not a suggestion. Use both numbers when you size your trailer, frame, and axle capacity, and confirm your fertilizer or chemical blend density falls within the 1.9 rating before you fill. At 1.9 SG this tank already sits at Norwesco's top-rated density class, so there is no heavier-duty version to step up to. If you are matching capacity to a spray or fill program, the Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide help you work backward from gallons to weight to frame.

Chemical compatibility

This tank is molded from HDLPE (high density linear polyethylene) with a 1.9 specific gravity rating, which is what lets it haul liquids heavier than water. Always confirm chemical service against the OEM chemical-resistance chart at your specific concentration and temperature, and match your fittings and gaskets to the chemical, not to the tank. If you are hauling DEF, for example, the list below calls for 316SS fittings and EPDM gaskets at 32.5 percent. Verified-compatible chemicals with their recommended fitting and gasket materials include:

For full concentration and temperature limits on any of these, start at the chemical compatibility reference before specifying gaskets and valves.

The mistake to avoid

The most common error on a high-SG haul tank like this one is matching fittings to the tank instead of to the chemical. The 1.9 SG rating tells you the polyethylene shell can carry the weight, but it says nothing about gasket and valve chemistry. Sulfuric acid at 98% needs CPVC and Viton; sodium hypochlorite needs PVC and Viton; DEF and peracetic acid need 316 stainless. Pairing the wrong gasket with an aggressive chemical fails the seal long before the tank ever does. If you are blending fertilizer, watch for density-driven stratification as well, covered in our guide on fertilizer-blend tank stratification. Before you trailer this on-road, confirm your DOT scope: our overview of Norwesco applicator and leg tanks for fertilizer and the 49 CFR 173.5 agricultural exemption and DOT classification guide both walk through how a farm-fleet leg tank is classified for the road.
