The Norwesco 175 gallon 30-degree cone bottom tank is built for batch chemical processes where you need every gallon to drain - the steep cone empties cleanly, with no settled product left in a flat floor. This is the tank-only unit, so you supply the stand. It is molded in white polyethylene at 42 inches across and 40 inches tall, with a 1.5 specific gravity rating. That rating is the number that decides whether this tank fits your chemical, so read the compatibility section below before you buy.

Will it hold your batch

The closed-top cone holds 175 gallons. Filled with plain water it carries about 1,460 lb; rated to its full 1.5 specific gravity, it is engineered for contents up to roughly 2,189 lb. Footprint is 42.0 x 42.0 inches, so plan your stand pad and clearance around that square. The cone is a true 30-degree design - moderate slope that drains well without forcing the extreme stand height a 45-degree cone demands. If you are weighing 15 vs 30 vs 45-degree cones, the Norwesco cone bottom tank buyer's guide walks through the tradeoffs, and the 175 gallon 30-degree complete buyer's guide covers this exact size. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide to confirm 175 gallons matches your batch volume before you commit.

Chemical compatibility

This tank is white polyethylene with a 1.5 specific gravity rating. One gating item first: the resin grade reads as HDLPE but is not yet confirmed, and crosslinked (XLPE) versus linear (HDLPE) polyethylene behave differently with aggressive chemistries - so confirm HDLPE versus XLPE with us before committing this tank to chemical service. Within the 1.5 SG limit, the OEM chemical-resistance chart (which is concentration- and temperature-specific) rates this tank for the chemicals below. Match the fitting and gasket material exactly to your chemical - note that DEF needs 316 stainless fittings, not PVC:

Chemicals that need a higher-rated tank

Several common chemistries are NOT a fit for this 1.5 SG tank and require a 1.9 specific gravity version instead - and many also need Viton or Aflas gaskets rather than EPDM, plus specialty fittings. Among them: Sodium Hypochlorite (bleach, PVC/Viton), Sulfuric Acid (CPVC/Viton), Hydrochloric Acid (PVC/Viton), Hydrofluoric Acid (PP/PVC, Viton), Hydrofluosilicic Acid (PP/PVC, Viton), Hydrogen Peroxide (PVC/Viton), Phosphoric Acid (PVC/Viton), Peracetic Acid (316SS/Aflas), Ethylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Thiosulfate, and Zinc Orthophosphate. If you store any of these, call 866-418-1777 to spec the 1.9 SG version, and cross-check anything you store against our Chemical Compatibility Database first.

Fittings, layout, and the mistake to avoid

The single most common error on a cone bottom tank is buying for water weight when you are running a heavier-than-water chemical. At 1.5 SG this tank is engineered for roughly 2,189 lb of contents - confirm your filled batch weight stays under that, and confirm your stand and any anchoring are rated for it too. Fitting configuration is shown on the technical drawing on this page; call 866-418-1777 to verify outlet size and fitting layout before you order. Where you place the vent, fill, level, and drain fittings matters as much as the tank itself; our tank top fitting placement strategy guide covers a layout that avoids cross-contamination. Since this is the tank-only SKU, pair it with a properly rated stand using the cone bottom tank stand compatibility matrix.

This cone bottom tank ships LTL freight from the nearest Norwesco plant to you - Norwesco molds at Griffin, GA; Hanford, CA; Shawnee, OK; Sheldon, IA; St. Bonifacius, MN; Tooele, UT; and Washington Court House, OH - so freight is quoted live to your ZIP from whichever plant is closest. Get an exact number with the Freight Cost Estimator, or call us at 866-418-1777 and we will confirm specific gravity fit, fittings, and freight together before you order.
