A 2550 gallon black vertical tank for water storage, rain catchment and fire reserve
The Norwesco 2550 gallon vertical water storage tank in black, part number 43812, is a polyethylene flat bottom tank 93 inches in diameter and 95 inches tall, weighing 325 lb empty. It stands on a pad outdoors and holds water: well water, rainwater, stock water, irrigation supply or a fire reserve for a rural site. It comes with a 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting as the outlet, a 1-1/2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting as the inlet, and a 16 inch threaded vented manway on top. The tank is rated for liquids up to 1.1 specific gravity, so it is a water tank and should not be asked to carry fertilizer or heavy chemicals; 2550 gallons of water weighs about 21270 lb. Where it goes
A tank this size is a permanent fixture. It needs a flat, level, continuous pad at least as wide as the 93 inch base, with no slope, joint or drain under it; a full tank puts more than ten tons on the pad, all of it through the moulded floor. Compacted gravel in a frame works for most farm sites, and concrete is the answer where the tank feeds a pump or a fire connection. What goes in it
Water. The 1.1 specific gravity rating is the thing to respect: it covers water and liquids no more than a tenth heavier than water, which is drinking water, rainwater, stock water and most treated water. Liquid fertilizer, brine and most chemical solutions are heavier than that and belong in a 1.5 or 1.9 rated tank; tell us the liquid and we will point you to the right one. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. A 2 inch ball valve threads straight into it. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the tank wall carries water, not plumbing.
- Inlet. A 1-1/2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, set high in the wall for a fill line from a pump, a well or a downspout filter. If you fill from the top instead, it makes a convenient overflow.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top: wide enough for a float valve, a level sensor and a brush, and it vents the tank as the pump draws down, so keep it clear.
