The Norwesco 3000 Gallon Cone Bottom Tank and Poly Stand in Black (SKU N-44951) is a full-drain vessel built for bulk chemical batching where you need every gallon to gravity-feed out the bottom. The 30-degree closed-top cone sits on a matched poly stand, giving you 3000 gallons of usable capacity in a 96-inch diameter footprint standing 134 inches tall. It is molded from polyethylene with a 1.5 specific gravity rating, a single 2" outlet, a 16" lid, and carries an FDA Approved material designation. Empty, the tank weighs about 1000 lb.

Will it work for your application?

The 1.5 specific gravity rating is the number that governs what you can store: the tank wall and cone are engineered to hold contents up to 1.5 times the density of water. Filled with water the assembly carries roughly 25,020 lb; loaded to its maximum rated content density it is engineered for about 37,530 lb. Those weights drive your stand pad, anchoring, and slab design, so size the foundation to the loaded figure, not the empty one. The 96-inch diameter footprint and 134-inch height dictate ceiling clearance and fill-line reach, and Norwesco lists a maximum service temperature of 120 F / 48 C, so keep heated or exothermic contents below that ceiling. One drain-rate caveat: the tank discharges through a single 2" outlet, which governs how fast 3000 gallons empties — viscous or slurry services should confirm the 2" port is adequate before ordering. For layout of the vent, fill, level, and drain fittings, work through our tank top fitting placement guide, and confirm the stand pairing against our cone bottom stand compatibility matrix and steel-vs-poly stand decision tree. The Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide help you confirm 3000 gallons is the right volume before you commit. See the technical drawing on this page for cone angle and port geometry.

Chemical compatibility

Before you build a compatibility list on this tank, resolve the resin: our data carries it as HDLPE but flags it unconfirmed, so verify HDLPE vs XLPE before any chemical service — the two crosslink grades differ in resistance. Compatibility below is drawn from the Snyder Industries OEM chemical-resistance chart and is concentration- and temperature-specific, so verify your exact chemical, concentration, temperature, and fitting plus gasket material before ordering. Chemicals this 1.5-SG tank is rated to hold include Acetic Acid (60%, PP/PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets), Aluminum Sulfate (50%, PVC/EPDM), Calcium Chloride (40%, PVC/EPDM), Ferrous Sulfate (20%, PVC/EPDM), Magnesium Chloride (30%, PVC/EPDM), Sodium Carbonate (30%, PVC/EPDM), and Ozonated Water (up to 10 PPM, PVC/EPDM). Two lighter-density services actually sit below the 1.5 ceiling — DEF (32.5%, required SG 1.35) and Urea Solution (50%, required SG 1.35) — so this shell has headroom for them, but note DEF specifically needs 316SS fittings, not PVC. Match fitting and gasket materials to the chemical exactly as listed.

The mistake to avoid

The costliest error on a cone-bottom chem tank is putting a denser chemical in a 1.5-SG shell. Several common chemicals exceed what this tank is rated to hold and require a heavier 1.9-SG cone tank instead: Sulfuric Acid (98%), Hydrochloric Acid (37%), Ferric Chloride (50%), Ferric Sulfate (60%), Hydrogen Peroxide (50%), Sodium Hypochlorite (<16.5%), Phosphoric Acid (85%), Ethylene Glycol (100%), Hydrofluoric Acid (48%), Hydrofluosilicic Acid (26%), Potassium Hydroxide (saturated), Peracetic Acid (30%), Sodium Bisulfite, and Zinc Orthophosphate. Do not order this 1.5-SG tank for those services — filter for a 1.9-SG cone tank in our Chemical Compatibility Database instead. And remember the fittings escalate along with the gaskets, not just the SG rating: Sulfuric Acid 98% needs CPVC with Viton, Peracetic Acid 30% needs 316SS with Aflas, and Hydrofluoric and Hydrofluosilicic Acid need PP/PVC with Viton. Cross-check every candidate chemical there first so you don't spec PVC/EPDM into a service that fails at the fitting.
