Why the cone, and why this one

A cone bottom tank is for liquids that settle or for processes where every gallon has to come out: fertilizer blending, brine and additive make-up, decanting, batch mixing with a mixer mounted on the manway, and clean-in-place work where a flat bottom would keep a heel of product. The 30 degree cone is the middle of Norwesco's range, steep enough that settled material slides to the outlet rather than ledging, and short enough to keep capacity under a normal ceiling. What goes in it

Water, liquid fertilizer and the industrial and treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles. Check the liquid in our chemical compatibility guide before the first fill; the entries for sulfuric acid, sodium hypochlorite, ferric chloride, phosphoric acid and hydrochloric acid are the ones cone bottom buyers ask about most. The 1.5 rating means a liquid up to 1.5 times the weight of water, 12.52 lb per gallon. Heavier liquids belong in the heavy duty version, the 3000 gallon 30 degree cone bottom tank in light blue, rated to 1.9. Keep the contents under 120 F, and keep the natural white wall in mind: you can read the level through it, and sunlight reaches the contents.

Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the point of the cone. Thread the valve in before the tank is set and support the pipe run on its own, so the fitting carries liquid and not the weight of a valve and hose.
2. Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top: fill from a hose or a pump, mount a small mixer, or get a hand and a brush inside to clean.
3. Stand. The cone needs a stand that cradles it at 30 degrees and lifts the outlet high enough for a valve and a drum or pump underneath. Confirm the stand with us when you order.

This is an oversize load. It ships by flatbed or dedicated truck from Norwesco's St. Bonifacius, Minnesota plant, 99 by 99 by 134 inches and 939 lb. The listed price is before freight; the freight cost estimator gives the lane cost to your ZIP, and a written quote is available for a job that needs paperwork. Have a forklift with long forks or a loader with wide straps ready before the truck arrives; never lift a cone bottom tank by a chain around the cone. At the tailgate, check the part number against 40797 on the bill of lading, look over the cone, the outlet fitting and the manway for transit damage, set the tank on a level floor, and fill it with water the first time before it carries anything else.
