The Norwesco 3000 gallon 15 degree cone bottom tank in blue, part number 45242, is a high density linear polyethylene process tank that drains completely: the floor slopes at 15 degrees to a centre outlet, so nothing is left behind between batches. The tank is 91 inches in diameter and 120 inches tall, weighs 531 lb empty, and is rated for liquids up to 1.9 specific gravity, a maximum of 15.87 lb per gallon. 3000 gallons of water weighs 25020 lb; a full load at the rating limit is 47538 lb. It comes with a 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the bottom outlet and a 16 inch threaded vented manway on top; no inlet fitting is installed, so the top is yours to drill for fill, vent and level where your process wants them. The resin is FDA compliant per Norwesco, the service limit is 120 F (48 C), and Norwesco backs it with a 3 year warranty. A cone bottom tank has no flat base and needs its stand: Norwesco's stand N-64090 is required and sold separately.

Why a 15 degree cone at 1.9
Buy a cone bottom when the liquid must leave the tank completely and repeatedly: a batch made up, drawn down and made up again; a solution carrying something in suspension that must not settle and stay; a bulk supply where the last of the tank is worth as much as the first. Fifteen degrees is the shallow end of Norwesco's cone range, which keeps the overall height down and the stand short; steeper cones move solids faster but stand taller. The 1.9 rating is for heavy liquids: concentrated fertilizers, brines, many acids and caustics run well above 1.5. For water and thin liquids the same tank in white at the standard 1.5 rating is the lighter choice.
What goes in it
Polyethylene handles water, most fertilizers and many common chemicals; the 1.9 rating widens that to the heavy ones. Openings, fittings and the stand
- Outlet. A 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the point of the cone, factory installed. Your valve threads straight in.
- Top. A 16 inch threaded vented manway, and no inlet fitting. Decide the fill, vent and level positions before the tank arrives and have the bulkhead fittings on the same order.
- Stand. Required, Norwesco part N-64090, sold separately. The stand sets the outlet height, which decides what fits under the cone: a valve and a hose, a pump inlet or a drum. Measure that equipment first.

Set the stand in its final position first, level it across both diagonals, then lower the tank in and turn it so the outlet points where the pipe runs. Check the part number against 45242 on the bill of lading, and fill with water the first time so any problem shows up with something harmless in the tank.
