The Norwesco 335 Gallon Black Elliptical Leg Tank (SKU 42971) is a 335-gallon polyethylene leg tank built for mounting on a trailer or pickup skid and hauling liquid down the road. The black tank measures 71 inches long by 48 inches wide by 33 inches tall, and the integrally molded legs let it sit flat and stable on a flatbed or sprayer frame without a separate cradle. It carries a 1.5 specific gravity rating, so it is engineered to haul liquids up to 1.5 times the weight of water at full volume.

Will it handle your load?

Full of water, this Norwesco tank carries roughly 2,794 lb of contents; at its 1.5 SG rating it is built to carry up to about 4,191 lb of denser liquid such as a fertilizer blend. The 48.0 x 71.0 inch footprint is the number to design your trailer or skid frame around, and the elliptical leg shape keeps the center of gravity low, which matters when you are moving a full load on uneven ground. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide to confirm the size fits your acreage and rig before you buy. The pack does not list factory fitting sizes for this tank, so confirm the outlet and fill-opening dimensions against the technical drawing on this page before you plumb it.

Chemical compatibility

This is a polyethylene tank with a 1.5 specific gravity rating. Its resin is recorded as HDLPE with a query flag, so confirm whether your unit is HDLPE or XLPE before putting it into chemical service, since that distinction changes long-term resistance. Water and DEF haulers are unaffected, but anyone running an acid or oxidizer should confirm HDLPE versus XLPE with us before ordering, because XLPE is the chemical-duty resin. At the 1.5 SG rating, the tank is suited to carrying these chemicals at the listed concentrations when paired with the correct fitting and gasket materials:

DEF and urea solution compatibility makes this tank a fit for fleet and applicator use, but match the metal to the liquid: both run EPDM gaskets, yet DEF (32.5%) requires 316 stainless fittings while urea solution (50%) allows PP or PVC. Plumb them on the same rig and you cannot standardize on one outlet material. Across the full 1.5 SG list the gasket spec stays simple, EPDM throughout, so for this tier your fitting order is straightforward and the Viton and specialty-gasket complexity only starts at the 1.9 SG tier below. Always confirm against the OEM chemical-resistance chart, which is concentration- and temperature-specific, and see our full chemical compatibility reference before committing a chemical to this tank.

Chemicals that need a higher-SG tank

Several common applicator and treatment chemicals exceed what a 1.5 SG tank should carry and require a 1.9 specific gravity tank instead. Do not run this tank out of spec for any of these: Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Hypochlorite, Sodium Thiosulfate, Sulfuric Acid, and Zinc Orthophosphate. Sodium hypochlorite, sulfuric acid, and the other acids in this group also need Viton or specialty gaskets, so plan the fitting package accordingly. If your chemical is on this 1.9 SG list, call 866-418-1777 and we will match you to a 1.9-rated tank in this size class rather than overload a 1.5 SG tank.

Freight and ordering

This is a haul-class tank that ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP code. Norwesco molds this leg tank in three regional plants, Hanford, CA; Shawnee, OK; and Washington Court House, OH, so your freight is typically quoted from the nearest one, run your ZIP through the Freight Cost Estimator to see which origin sets your rate. For application guidance see our guides on Norwesco applicator and leg tanks for fertilizer and fertilizer-blend tank stratification. Questions on fittings, sizing, or a freight quote? Call 866-418-1777 and we will get you set up.
