Openings and fittings: what to check before you buy

1. Inlet and outlet. Each is a 4 inch gasketed opening with a PVC tee assembly fitted. Your 4 inch pipe pushes into the gasket; the tee keeps floating scum away from the pipe. Make the last joint outside the tank where you can reach it, and bed the pipe so it does not hang its weight on the gasket.
2. Manway. A 20 inch gasketed manway with a 20 inch lid. Decide the finished grade before the tank goes in; if the lid will sit below grade, ask us about risers at order time so they ship with the tank.
3. Which end is which. The inlet sits higher than the outlet so liquid flows through by gravity. Norwesco marks them; check before you set the tank, because turning a 157 inch tank in a trench is slow work.
4. Approval. Norwesco's IAPMO listing and the Florida approval are what the inspector wants to see. Ask us for the documents with the order if your county requires them on site.

The other low profile versions

Order by part number, not by gallons, because Norwesco makes the 1250 gallon low profile tank in several versions. For states other than Florida, the preplumbed two compartment version, part 43501 and the loose plumbing version, part 43503 are the two compartment choices, and the 1250 gallon low profile septic tank, part 43497 is the base version. One size up is the 1500 gallon preplumbed one compartment low profile tank, part 43498. The smaller Florida tank is the Florida only 1050 gallon two compartment low profile tank, part 43533.

Shipping and receiving

At 157 inches long the tank ships as an oversize load from Norwesco's Griffin, Georgia plant, 157 by 60 by 51 inches and 581 lb. At the tailgate, check the part number against 43532, look at both tee assemblies and the manway gasket face for transit damage, and keep the gasket faces clean until the pipes go in. Bed the tank on a flat, compacted base the full 157 inch length, set it level, and fill it with water as you backfill so the walls are supported from both sides, which is how every polyethylene septic tank should go in.
