The shape for a joist, not a roof

Pump rooms with pipe racks at head height, mezzanines with a load limit, treatment skids, greenhouses under a low eave, wash bays with a roll-up door in the way: this is the shape those sites can accept, and the heavy duty wall lets them store a dense liquid rather than only water. At 55 inches the shell stops below shoulder height, so inspection needs no platform. The cost is floor area: measure the route from the dock to the pad before you order.

At 180 lb empty this is the lightest tank in its capacity range, easy to place and easy for wind to move, so band it even though it looks too squat to need it. Black passes no light to the liquid and takes the UV that ages a pale shell outdoors; it hides the level, so plan a sender. What to check before you buy

1. The pad. A rotomoulded tank carries on its whole floor, so 9,174 lb of water, or 17,431 lb at the rating, bears across the full 86 inch circle and every part of it has to support the load. Pour to our concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact.
2. The outlet. The 18 inch threaded vented manway is the only opening carried on this page. Tell us the liquid and the draw-off you want and we will confirm the bottom fitting, its size, gasket and material before anything is drilled. Snyder's drawing is linked under Technical Drawing.
3. Vent. The manway vent is the whole breathing path, and at 55 inches it sits where wash-down spray, dust and snow reach it. A pump that outruns the vent pressurises a polyethylene tank. Size the vent to the delivery pump and inspect the screen with the bands.
4. Fill. Through a dip tube to the floor; a wide free surface foams when splash-filled.
5. Headspace. Keep freeboard for expansion at the 140 F limit. A wide tank hides expansion in inches, so calculate it.

A shell this short gives little suction head, so a transfer pump goes below the outlet with a low-level float. The first valve stands on its own support with a flexible connector to hard pipe. Where it freezes, trace the valve and the first pipe run.

Shipping and receiving

The tank ships LTL at freight class 400 from the nearest of Snyder's Chowchilla, CA, Lincoln, NE and Philippi, WV plants, 86 by 86 by 55 inches at 180 lb. The class follows the footprint, not the weight. Price the lane to your ZIP with the freight cost estimator. Two people and a strap under the body will place it; nothing goes through the manway. Check the part number against 1710000N48 on the bill of lading, then fill with water to the manway, hold it while someone walks the full circle of the base, and drain it before the working liquid.
