The Snyder Industries 1100 Gallon Black Vertical Water Storage Tank (SKU WB44) is a squat polyethylene vertical water tank, 86 inches in diameter and just 53 inches tall, rated to a 1.0 specific gravity. The black resin blocks sunlight, suppressing the algae growth that plagues translucent tanks holding water in the open, which makes it a practical pick for outdoor bulk water storage, irrigation supply, fire-water reserve, and rainwater or reuse collection where the contents sit for extended stretches. The low, wide profile also keeps the center of gravity down, an advantage in windy or seismic locations.
Does it work for your job?
Filled to capacity, this tank holds roughly 9,174 pounds of water, so the pad and ground beneath it have to carry that load across the full 86 x 86 inch footprint. Confirm your slab before delivery; our Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide help you match capacity to your draw-down and refill rate. The tank ships plumbing-ready: a flange, a 12" x 15" fitting, a 1-1/2" and a 2" EPDM bulkhead fitting in polypropylene, plus an 18-inch polyethylene manway with an integral 4-inch vent and tie-down. The EPDM gaskets on these bulkheads are correct for water and water-like fluids. In practice the 2" bulkhead suits a low gravity-feed draw outlet and the 1-1/2" works well as a secondary fill or return line, but cross-check every port location and elevation against the technical drawing on this page before you set the tank and run pipe.
Siting and acceptance
A short black tank on a wide base is forgiving to place, but a flat, level, fully supporting pad is non-negotiable at this water weight. For above-ground polyethylene installs, our concrete pad sizing guide walks through the ACI 360R-10 framework, and once the tank is set the hydrostatic test methodology covers staged water fill, pad-settlement monitoring, and fitting leak checks for new-install acceptance. If this tank anchors a fire-water reserve, the fire-water reservoir design guide covers NFPA 22 sizing discipline and cold-climate freeze protection; for grey-water, rainwater, or HVAC condensate aggregation, see our industrial water reuse topology guide.
The mistake to avoid
Two things sink this install. First, keep the manway's 4-inch vent clear at all times. A vertical water tank drawn down fast without adequate venting can pull a vacuum and collapse the wall, so never plumb or cap over that vent. Second, respect the 1.0 specific gravity rating: this tank is built for water and water-like fluids at the density of water. Anything with a specific gravity above 1.0 exceeds the rated 9,174-pound contents weight and can overstress the wall and fittings over time. If you are storing something other than fresh water, confirm the fluid's specific gravity first, and for heavier chemicals ask about our 1.5+ specific-gravity tanks at 866-418-1777. For straight water storage, this tank is exactly what it says it is.
Freight
This vertical storage tank ships LTL freight from the Snyder plant in Merced, California, quoted live to your ZIP code. Freight is priced by destination and is not included in the list price, so get your exact number with our Freight Cost Estimator or call 866-418-1777 and we will work it out with you. One receiving note: at 86 inches wide this tank overhangs a standard pallet, so a forklift is strongly preferred for unloading; a liftgate alone may not handle a base this size. Tell us your delivery ZIP and whether you have a forklift on site, and we will line up the right service for this tank.
