Under a six foot eave, on a seven foot circle

The site sells this tank. The manway is opened from the ground with no ladder. Wind is the smallest worry on a tank this squat, but a 260 pound shell is light enough to walk across a pad in a gust, so it is strapped or cabled before the first fill, while it is empty. Four walls share this shell and the sheet lists all four at 260 pounds, which we print as given. The N48 is the cross-linked heavy-duty wall in black, the tank to buy instead of this one when the dense liquid is also light-sensitive; the N51 and C34 are the black tanks in the other resins, each rated as its own sheet says. This one is for the buyer who wants the cross-linked heavy-duty wall and wants to see the level. Outside the shell, the 1830400N40 stands 1,300 gallons on a six foot circle at 87 inches, and the 1840000C26 puts 1,550 gallons on a 64 inch circle at 124 inches, ten feet four inches, for the site that has height and no floor.

What the outlet field says, and what gets specified at order

• Outlet: the outlet field on the sheet reads 15, and we print it as the sheet gives it. Name the liquid at order and the bulkhead fitting, gasket and bolting are matched to it, with a flexible connector to hard pipe and the first valve carried on its own support off the pad, never hung on the wall.
• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 72 inches up, opened from the ground. Fill through a dip tube to the floor so a dense liquid does not fall six feet onto the headspace wall; screen the vent, run it outdoors on a liquid that fumes, and size it to the delivery pump.
• Service limit: 140 F / 60 C.

Six feet of a liquid nearly twice the weight of water is a modest head, so the pump on this tank sits below the outlet, where gravity primes it, and a low-level float stops it before it draws air. The short column also means the tank drains slowly on gravity alone; a plant that empties it in a shift uses a pump. A low white tank is a tank people lean on and open, so the lid stays on between deliveries, the wall carries the name of the one chemical inside, and the band of wall above the liquid line gets a light and a look at every opening. Where it freezes, the outlet valve and the first pipe run get trace heat or insulation; the body ices from the top down and takes it.

Dense chemicals in day-tank volumes

A plating shop with concentrated acid, a small water plant with ferric or another dense coagulant, a food plant with brine, and a lab or pilot line that buys a dense chemical by the tote and wants to stop handling totes. Mark the liquid line on the white wall with tape after the first full delivery; a glance from the door then tells the shift what a gauge would.
