The 5050000N46 is the cross-linked tank in the same shell and color at 340 pounds, rated as its own sheet says, for hypochlorite and the everyday process chemicals; the C34 and C37-BLACK are the other black tanks at 340, each rated as its own sheet says; the C26 is the natural one. None of them is the tank for a liquid nearly twice the weight of water at the full height. This one is. A 2,000 gallon dense-chemical tank is also the size a small plant can turn over before a coagulant loses strength, and at seven feet four inches it fits under a chemical room ceiling with a vent line still above the lid. Full at the rating it puts 31,692 pounds on a 90 inch circle, and a rotationally molded floor bears on the whole pad, so the slab is engineered per the concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact, inside a berm sized to the tank where the liquid is regulated. Seven feet of tank on a seven and a half foot base stands steady, but it is strapped before the first fill anyway, because a black tank grows in the sun and an unstrapped tank walks. Black polyethylene passes no light to the liquid, runs warmer than white, and hides the level, so a sender read at the ground is the gauge. The 5050000 family, the slim 1,900 and the 2,500

The weight column tells the shell apart: 400 pounds is the heavy chemical wall, 340 is everything else. Outside the shell, the 1780200N40 holds 1,900 gallons on a six foot circle at 119 inches, nearly ten feet, the tank for a narrow alley with height; the 5090000C26 holds 2,500 gallons on this same 90 inch base at 107 inches for a site that can use the extra height and the extra gallons.

Vent sizing on a tank that fills in minutes

• Vent and fill: a 2,000 gallon tank takes a partial tanker, and a tanker pump fills it in minutes, pushing air out faster than the lid vent on the 18 inch threaded, vented manway passes it. Size the vent to the delivery pump before the first load, or fill with the manway open and someone at it. The fill goes down a dip tube to the floor so a dense liquid does not fall seven feet onto the headspace wall; the vent is screened, and it runs outdoors on a liquid that fumes.
• Headspace: stop the fill at the shoulder. A dense chemical expands as it warms, the headspace is where it goes, and the wall above the liquid line is inspected with a light from the manway at every opening.
• Outlet: the outlet field on the sheet reads 12, and we print it as the sheet gives it. Name the liquid at order and the bulkhead fitting, gasket and bolting are matched to it, with a flexible connector to hard pipe and the first valve carried on its own support off the pad.
• Service limit: 140 F / 60 C.

Seven feet of a liquid nearly twice the weight of water is a real load on the base fitting, and a rigid pipe run bolted straight to it puts every bit of pump vibration and thermal movement into the wall, so the flexible connector and the supported valve are not options. Mount the pump below the outlet where gravity primes it, and fit a low-level float so it stops before it draws air. The lid stays shut between deliveries, the wall names the one chemical inside, and the vent screen is looked at when the lid comes off. Where winters freeze, the valve and the first pipe run get trace heat or insulation; the body ices from the top down.

Where a heavy-wall 2,000 belongs

Ferric and the other dense coagulants at a small water plant, concentrated acid at a plating line, brine at a food plant, and a heavy fertilizer solution at a co-op. A forklift with long forks sets 400 pounds on the pad with the forks under the body, never through the manway, and the straps go on the same day. Fill it with water to the shoulder once and hold it, watching the pad edge and the base fitting, then drain and dry before the chemical goes in. Write the part number on the maintenance log the day it lands; five years on, nobody remembers which wall it is. The first fill is the only cheap time to find a problem, so do it in daylight with someone watching the base.
