Snyder molds three black 2,000 gallon tanks in the 90 by 88 inch shell, and the 5050000C37-BLACK is the general-grade one: 340 pounds of black polyethylene rated for a specific gravity of 1.5, or 25,020 pounds of contents against 16,680 for water, shipped from Lincoln, Nebraska or Philippi, West Virginia. It holds water, brine and the lighter treatment chemicals at strength, and the black wall keeps light off them. Beside it in the same shell stand the C34 with the heavier wall and the N33 with the lighter one, so the choice is made on the liquid, not the shape. Picking the wall by the liquid
The three black tanks in this shell differ only in the wall. The N33 is rated on its own sheet for a specific gravity of 1.35 and listed at 325 pounds: water and the lightest chemicals. This C37-BLACK is rated 1.5 at 340 pounds: water, brine, hypochlorite and most treatment chemicals at the strength the truck brings. The C34 is the heavier wall, rated as its own sheet says, for concentrated acid and the dense coagulants. Buy the wall the densest liquid the tank will ever hold needs, and no more; a heavier wall costs money and holds no more gallons. This tank is the middle of the three, and for most water plants and co-ops the middle is right. The same shell is also molded in Arkansas under a second part family, listed at a different weight; the sheet gives each and we print what it says. Full at the rating it puts 25,020 pounds on a 90 inch circle, and a rotationally molded floor bears on all of it: a slab in full contact or a compacted, screeded gravel base per the concrete pad sizing guide, with the empty tank strapped against wind. Black polyethylene absorbs the ultraviolet that ages a white wall and passes no light to the liquid, so it protects hypochlorite and keeps water clear. The C26 is the white tank with the heavier wall in this shell, for a site that wants to read the level through the wall and holds a dense chemical. The 1780200N40 stands 1,900 gallons on a 72 inch base at 119 inches, nearly ten feet, for the site with height and no floor; the 5090000C26 stands 2,500 gallons on this base at 107 inches, a foot and a half taller than this tank.

The vent, the headspace and the bulkhead
- Vent: the 18 inch manway is vented, and the vent's size is set by the pump, not the tank. Every gallon in pushes a gallon of air out; every gallon drawn pulls a gallon of air in. A vent that lags a tanker's pump lets the shell bulge at the shoulder; one that lags a fast transfer pump on the draw lets the shell suck in. Size it to the fastest pump, screen it, and take it outdoors on anything that fumes.
- Headspace: fill to the shoulder. Black in the sun, the liquid warms and grows, and the headspace is where it goes.
- Outlet: 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the base, matched to the liquid at order; a flexible connector to hard pipe, and the valve supported off the pad.
- Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 88 inches up, opened from a step.
- Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
Seven feet of liquid above a 2 inch outlet is a flooded suction to the last few inches; a pump mounted below the outlet primes by gravity, and a float at low level protects it from running dry. A black wall shows no level, so a sender read at the ground is the gauge. The valve and the first pipe run are what freeze; trace or insulate them and let the body ice from the top down.
Water plants, co-ops, and the general-grade job

A forklift with long forks or four people set 340 pounds on the pad; at 90 inches across it goes around the building. Strap it empty, fill it with water to the shoulder and hold it a day, watching the pad edge and the outlet fitting, then drain and dry before the chemical goes in. The first fill is the only cheap time to find a problem, so do it in daylight with someone watching the base.
