Two thousand gallons in black, molded in Arkansas: the 8130000C37-BLACK

Marked Tree, Arkansas molds the Snyder 8130000C37-BLACK, a black polyethylene vertical storage tank 90 inches across and 88 inches tall that holds 2,000 gallons at 400 pounds. It is the same shell as the 5050000C37-BLACK from Snyder's other plants, listed sixty pounds heavier and shipped from the middle of the country, so a buyer between the Rockies and the Appalachians gets the shorter lane. The wall is rated for a specific gravity of 1.5, or 25,020 pounds of contents against 16,680 for water: water, brine and the lighter treatment chemicals at strength, under a black wall that keeps light off them. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead outlet, an 18 inch threaded, vented manway, a 3 year warranty, and freight at class 400.

Same shell, second part number: which black 2,000 to order

Snyder lists the black 2,000 gallon tank under two part families, and the sheet separates them by weight and plant: this one at 400 pounds from Marked Tree, the 5050000C37-BLACK at 340 pounds from the other plants. Both are 90 by 88 inches, both carry the 1.5 rating, both take the same fittings; the sheet gives both weights and we print what it says. The reason to order this one is the lane. Freight on a tank this size is a real share of the cost, and a tank that leaves Arkansas reaches Texas, the Gulf, the Midwest and the Southeast a day sooner and a state or two cheaper than one leaving the West Coast or the East. Full at the rating it puts 25,020 pounds on a 90 inch circle, and the whole floor bears on the pad: a slab in full contact or a compacted, screeded gravel base per the concrete pad sizing guide, with the empty tank strapped before the first fill. Black polyethylene absorbs the ultraviolet that ages a white wall and passes no light to the liquid; it hides the level, so a sender at the ground is the gauge. The Snyder versus Norwesco versus Chem-Tainer 2,000 gallon comparison sets this shell beside the other makers, and the tank sizing calculator with the tank sizing guide confirms the volume against the feed rate and the truck schedule.

The black 2,000s by plant and weight, with the 1,900 and 2,500

The C34 is the black tank with the heavier wall in this shell and the C26 the white one, for the dense chemicals this rating does not cover; each is rated as its own sheet says. The 1780200N40 is the slim 1,900 on a six foot base at 119 inches, and the 5090000C26 the white 2,500 on this base at 107 inches for a site with a foot and a half more roof.

Breathing, filling and draining

  • Vent: the manway is vented, and the vent is sized to the delivery. A tanker pump moves air out of the headspace as fast as it moves liquid in; if the vent cannot pass it the tank bulges, and if the draw-down pump outruns the vent on the way back the tank sucks in. Match the vent to the fastest pump on the site, screen it against insects, and run it outdoors on a fuming liquid.
  • Headspace: fill to the shoulder. In a black wall in the sun the liquid warms and grows, and the headspace is what absorbs it.
  • Outlet: 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, at the base, matched to the liquid at order; a flexible connector to hard pipe, and the valve supported off the pad, never hung on the tank.
  • Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 88 inches up, opened from a step.
  • Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Seven feet of liquid above a 2 inch outlet keeps a feed pump flooded to the last few inches, so put the pump below the outlet and let gravity prime it; a low-level float stops it before it pumps air. Keep the manway shut between fills so vapor stays in and rain stays out, and label the one chemical the tank holds. Where it freezes, protect the valve and the first pipe run with trace or insulation; the body ices from the top down without damage.

Mid-country plants that buy by the tanker

A water plant in the Mississippi valley storing hypochlorite or a coagulant, a co-op in the plains with liquid fertilizer, a food plant with brine, a well site with a treatment chemical in the sun, and a black water reserve where algae would grow in a white tank. For a fire reserve it holds water well inside its rating; the fire-water reservoir design guide covers the draft outlet and the freeze protection that job needs. The industrial water reuse tank topology article places a 2,000 gallon tank in a reuse train, between the collection stage and the treatment stage.

Out of Marked Tree

The 8130000C37-BLACK ships from Marked Tree, Arkansas as LTL freight at class 400; the freight cost estimator quotes the lane to your ZIP, and the listed price is before freight. A forklift with long forks sets 400 pounds on the pad; at 90 inches across it goes around the building. Strap it empty, fill it with water to the shoulder, hold it a day while the pad edge and the outlet fitting are watched, then drain and dry before the chemical arrives, and watch the first delivery from the first gallon to the last. Write the fill date on the manway with a paint marker; it answers the first question anyone asks about a tank.
