2,500 gallons of black water storage under nine feet
The Snyder WB61 is a black polyethylene water tank that holds 2,500 gallons in a shell 90 inches across and 106 inches tall, weighing 340 pounds. It is the tank for water in full sun: the black wall keeps light out so the water stays clear of algae, and the seven and a half foot base puts half a tanker under a nine foot roof with the 18 inch threaded, vented manway reached from a step. A 1-1/2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead inlet, a 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead outlet, a 3 year warranty, and a rating of 1.0 specific gravity for water and liquids no heavier.

Ten tons of water on a seven and a half foot circle
Full, the WB61 puts 20,850 pounds on a 90 inch circle, and a rotationally molded floor bears on the whole pad, so the pad is what matters: a compacted, screeded gravel base or a slab in full contact, with the empty tank strapped against wind, because a black tank in the sun expands and moves a little every day. Black polyethylene absorbs the ultraviolet that ages a white wall and passes no light to the liquid, so a black tank outdoors holds water clear for years; it also runs warmer than a white one, which matters for drinking water in a hot climate. The tank sizing calculator tells you whether 2,500 gallons covers the draw, and the tank sizing guide covers days of supply.
Snyder's 2,000 to 2,600 gallon water tanks
| Part | Gallons | Diameter x height | Empty weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| WB61 (this tank, black) | 2,500 | 90 x 106 in | 340 lb |
| WB60 (black) | 2,500 | 90 x 106 in | 340 lb |
| 32747 (green, low profile) | 2,500 | 96 x 90 in | 300 lb |
| 32753 (low profile) | 2,500 | 96 x 90 in | 300 lb |
| 32559 (low profile) | 2,500 | 96 x 90 in | 343 lb |
| 32553 (low profile) | 2,000 | 96 x 73 in | 263 lb |
| WG62 (green, low profile) | 2,600 | 96 x 91 in | 427 lb |
The WB60 is the same black tank on the sheet with different fittings. The 32747, 32753 and 32559 lay the same 2,500 gallons down to 90 inches on a 96 inch base for a lower eave, the 32747 in green; the 32553 is the 2,000 on that base, and the WG62 the green 2,600 in the heavier wall.

Ports and manway
- Inlet: 1-1/2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting.
- Outlet: 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, at the base; a flexible connector between the fitting and hard pipe, and the valve supported off the pad. For a fire reserve a larger outlet is specified at order.
- Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 106 inches up, reached from a step.
- Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
A 2 inch outlet feeds a pressure pump or a fire pump's suction without starving it, and nearly nine feet of water above it gives the pump a flooded suction to the last few inches. A black wall shows no level, so fit a sender read at ground level or a sight tube off the outlet, and a low-level float switch keeps the pump from running dry. In a cold climate the outlet valve and the first run of pipe are insulated or drained; the body takes ice from the top down without harm.
In service
Well storage for a house, a barn and a garden in full sun, a rain cistern under a large roof, stock water on a pasture, and a fire reserve of the kind the fire-water reservoir design guide describes. Several of them are the storage stage of a reuse system for roof water and condensate, per the industrial water reuse tank topology article, where the dark wall keeps the stored water from turning green.
Freight and unloading
The WB61 ships as LTL freight at class 400, the class light, bulky tanks take; the freight cost estimator gives the number for your ZIP; the price shown here is before freight. Two people stand 340 pounds, or a forklift with long forks does it; at 90 inches across it goes outside. Fill it to the manway once, check both fittings, and keep a screen on the inlet and the vent. Check the strap tension a week after the first fill; a tank settles a little, and the strap that was tight is loose.
