Snyder Industries 400 Gallon ASTM XLPE Black Heavy Duty Vertical Storage Tank

A dosing tank that gets a partial load, not a tanker

Nobody sends a transport truck for 400 gallons, and that one fact describes the duty. This is the tank a small water system keeps in its chlorine room, the tank a plating or finishing line holds a bath chemical in, the tank a co-op or a spray crew decants totes into so one pump has one suction point instead of four. It is filled often, in small amounts, by people standing beside it, so a lid at 62 inches and a footprint that fits a bunded corner matter more than any freight consideration. What does not change is the ground. Plain water puts 3,336 lb in it and the rating allows up to 6,338 lb, all bearing on a 45 inch circle, because a rotomolded floor carries on the whole floor and on nothing else. Three tons on a footprint that small is a real bearing pressure, so the slab is engineered per our concrete pad sizing guide, poured level and in full contact, inside a berm sized to the tank wherever the liquid is regulated. Eighty-five pounds empty is light enough to walk in a gust, so strap it or bolt the pad before the first fill, not after the piping is finished. The pump comes first on a tank this short

1. Pump. With just over five feet of liquid above the floor, suction head is scarce, so the pump belongs below the tank floor on its own base with the shortest, straightest suction run you can build. A self-priming pump earns its money here, and an air bleed at the high point of the suction line saves the first call of every season.
2. Run-dry protection. A low-level float or a level switch wired to the pump is not optional: 400 gallons empties in minutes at transfer rates and the pump loses prime long before the tank looks empty. Set the cutout above the floor.
3. Outlet. No bottom fitting size is listed on this tank. Name the liquid and the draw-off you want at order and we will confirm what Snyder fits to this moulding before anything is cut.
4. Manway. One 18 inch threaded vented manway at 62 inches, reached from a step. Fill down a dip tube to the floor so the incoming stream does not free-fall and foam, and vent outdoors on anything that fumes, with the vent sized to the pump doing the filling.

Shipping and receiving

The tank ships LTL at freight class 300 from Snyder's plant at Lincoln, NE, 45 by 45 by 62 inches on a pallet at 85 lb. The freight cost estimator gives the lane cost to your ZIP. At the tailgate, check the part number against 1740000N48 on the bill of lading, walk the wall and the manway threads for transit damage before signing, and fill it with water the first time before it carries anything else. Carry the first valve on its own support off the pad with a flexible connector between the tank and hard pipe, keep the manway closed between fills, and put freeze protection on the piping rather than the body.
