The Snyder Industries 4600 Gallon Cone Bottom Tank is built for bulk chemical batching, blending, and full-drain storage where you need every gallon to evacuate through the cone instead of settling on a flat floor. It holds 4,600 gallons in a Natural White polyethylene body rated to 1.7 specific gravity, stands 154 inches tall, and sits on a 102 x 102 inch footprint. If you have been searching for a cone bottom tank, a cone tank, or a Snyder cone, this is the 4,600-gallon size in that family.

Will it handle your load?

The 1.7 specific gravity rating is the number to plan around. Filled with plain water at SG 1.0 the contents weigh about 38,364 pounds; loaded to the full 1.7 rating the contents weigh up to 65,219 pounds. That contents weight plus the tank's own dead weight is what your stand has to carry, and because this is a cone bottom tank the entire mass bears down on the stand legs and support ring, not on a flat pad. Confirm your stand, ring, and footing are sized for the fully loaded weight before you fill. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide to match capacity and contents weight to your application, and see the Cone Bottom Tank Stand Compatibility Matrix for stand pairing across Norwesco, Snyder, and Enduraplas. Full specifications and dimensions are on the technical drawing on this page.

Chemical compatibility

This is a 1.7 specific gravity polyethylene tank. The resin is listed as HDLPE but flagged unconfirmed, so confirm HDLPE versus XLPE with us before committing it to chemical service. This tank also ships without a fixed fitting package: outlet and bulkhead fittings are matched to your chemical at order (PP, PVC, CPVC, or 316 stainless per the lists below), so don't assume a default outlet material. Always verify your specific chemical against the OEM chemical-resistance chart at your actual concentration and temperature, because compatibility is concentration- and temperature-specific. At the concentrations below, this 1.7-SG tank is suited for:

If you are running diesel exhaust fluid, this cone is DEF-suitable at 32.5% with 316 stainless wetted fittings and EPDM gaskets — spell out stainless-only on every wetted part so a supplier doesn't slip in a brass or carbon-steel fitting that will contaminate the fluid.

Some chemicals are too dense or too aggressive for a 1.7-SG tank and need a higher 1.9 specific gravity tank instead, often with a different gasket elastomer. Those include Ethylene Glycol (PVC, EPDM), Ferric Chloride (PVC, EPDM), Ferric Sulfate (PVC, EPDM), Hydrochloric Acid (PVC, Viton), Hydrofluoric Acid (PP/PVC, Viton), Hydrofluosilicic Acid (PP/PVC, Viton), Hydrogen Peroxide (PVC, Viton), Peracetic Acid (316SS, Aflas), Phosphoric Acid (PVC, Viton), Polyaluminum Chloride (PVC, EPDM), Potassium Carbonate (PVC, EPDM), Potassium Hydroxide (PVC, EPDM), Propylene Glycol (PP/316SS, EPDM), Sodium Bisulfate (PVC/PP, EPDM), Sodium Bisulfite (PVC/PP, EPDM), Sodium Hypochlorite (PVC, Viton), Sodium Thiosulfate (PVC, EPDM), Sulfuric Acid (CPVC, Viton), and Zinc Orthophosphate (PP/316SS, EPDM). For any of those, request the 1.9-SG version of this cone so the wall is rated for the weight. Cross-reference everything in our Chemical Compatibility Database before you order.

The mistake to avoid

The most common error on a tank this large is matching the gasket and fitting material to the tank but not to the chemical. EPDM is correct for the salts, DEF, and urea above, but it fails fast on sodium hypochlorite, the acids, and peracetic acid, which need Viton or Aflas; and 316 stainless is specified for DEF and peracetic acid where PVC is not appropriate. Get the fitting material, the gasket elastomer, and the tank SG rating all matched to your chemical at the same time. For level monitoring on a chemical-service cone tank, see the tank level gauge selection guide, and for hazard placarding and labeling review the bulk polyethylene storage signage guide. If secondary containment is part of your spec, compare options in our Snyder Captor Plus 110% containment guide.
