Where it goes

The cone sets the shape and the shape sets the height. A steep cone costs height, which is why a dry bin of this volume stands 84 inches tall on a 48 by 45 inch plan: one pallet position, seven feet tall, riding upright. Seven feet clears a standard dock door and not much else, so measure the lowest obstruction on the route from the truck to the position before the freight is booked. The height from the floor to the discharge is the number that decides whether a drum, a sack filler, a screw feeder, a weigh hopper or a mixer inlet fits underneath, so measure what has to go there and tell us before you order. The bin wants a flat, continuous, level bearing surface under the whole plan, or a purpose-built steel frame if the discharge has to be raised, in which case the frame sets the clearance and the frame is what has to be engineered. Empty it is 346 lb; loaded, the weight depends entirely on the bulk density of your material, so get the density from your supplier or weigh it before anything is built underneath. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. 2 inch, at the bottom of the 60 degree cone. A slide gate, a valve or a feeder connection goes here; support it on its own so the bin carries material, not hardware.
2. Lid. A 12 inch lid on top, enough to fill from a sack or a chute and to get a hand inside to clean.
3. The material. Polyethylene suits most dry granules and powders that do not attack it. Check anything corrosive or hot with us; the shell is rated to 120 F.
