Where it earns its height

This tank suits a site that is short on ground and fine with height: a narrow strip beside a building, a containment bay sized for a smaller tank, a well house yard or a row of tanks along a fence line. For water the height is useful. A 202 inch column above the base fitting gives a gravity feed real pressure at the start and keeps a pump suction flooded until the tank is nearly empty. It also asks for planning at the top: a caged ladder and a platform at the manway, a fill pipe run up the side, and a vent that can pass air as fast as the fill comes in. Anchor it to the slab before it is filled, since a tall empty tank moves in a wind. What to check before you buy

1. The weight of the liquid. 1.5 specific gravity is the ceiling. A denser liquid needs the 1.9 rated heavy duty version of this column, which we also list.
2. The outlet. No bottom fitting is listed for this tank. Give us the pipe size and what the tank feeds and we will confirm the fitting before you order.
3. The manway. 18 inch threaded and vented on top, with room for a float switch, a level sender and a fill hose.
4. Freezing. In cold country, insulate or heat-trace the valve and first pipe run; the body of the tank tolerates a skin of ice, the plumbing does not.
