Wide and low, on purpose

Most 550 gallon tanks are tall. This one is 76 inches across and 65 inches high, a shade under five and a half feet, and that proportion is the reason to choose it: the manway is reached from a single step rather than a fixed ladder, the tank clears a roller door and the pipework above it, and the load spreads over a wide base. The cost is floor: more than six feet square takes real deck space and needs a doorway and a straight run to match. The black wall protects light-sensitive chemicals and keeps stored water clear of algae, and because you cannot see the level through it, plan a transmitter or a sight tube through the manway from the start. It goes in a water or wastewater plant, a cooling tower treatment room, a boiler house or a process line where a tanker fills it and a metering pump draws it down.

Floor, freeboard and inspection

A full tank is over four tons at the 1.9 rating on the 76 inch base. Stand it on a flat, continuous, level slab with no joint under the tank; the inner and outer walls are designed to be supported evenly. Keep the outer tank dry and put a look between the walls on the operator's rounds; containment that nobody checks is a tray. What to check before you buy

1. The liquid. Polyethylene handles most treatment chemicals, fertilizers and brines. Check yours in our chemical compatibility guide and confirm the concentration with us. For sulfuric acid, Snyder makes a dedicated resin version of this shell, linked below.
2. The manway. An 18 inch threaded vented manway: fill from a tanker hose, fit a level transmitter, inspect by hand. The outlet and any other fittings are decided with us at order time; Snyder's drawing, linked under Technical Drawing on this page, shows the positions.
3. The temperature. Snyder's limit is 120 F. For warm product or a tank in full sun, ask us about the crosslinked version linked below.
4. The route in. Measure the narrowest door and the tightest turn between the truck and the pad against 76 inches, not the room it ends up in.

The tank ships LTL at freight class 300 from Snyder's plant in Philippi, West Virginia, 76 by 76 by 65 inches, strapped to a skid. The width wants a forklift with wide forks or a crane and a straight run to the pad. The listed price is before freight; the freight cost estimator gives the lane cost to your ZIP.
