Snyder Industries 550 Gallon ASTM XLPE Heavy Duty Vertical Storage Tank

A low day tank on a hard surface

A sprayer fill pad where a boom swings over it, a wash rack with a hose reel above, a nursery aisle under a shade structure, a yard where the loader bucket passes at chest height: that is this tank's duty, and it explains the shape: 47 inches of height under a full load, a 64 inch base that will not tip when a hose is dragged across it, and 100 lb empty, which is a two-person lift onto a trailer. The white wall belongs to the same job; the operator running a fill hose sees what is happening without a gauge or a ladder. It is the wrong trade when the liquid minds light, and the black version of this tank is the answer then. The ground still carries everything: 4,587 lb of water, or up to 8,715 lb at the rating, bearing on the whole floor of a 64 inch circle. That means a pad engineered per our concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact, inside a berm sized to the tank wherever the liquid is regulated; on a wide tank an unlevel slab is the defect that matters, because the low corner takes the load. Strap or block it while it is empty; a light, broad tank on an open pad is a sail in the wrong wind.

The pump and the lid

1. Pump. A shallow tank gives a pump very little to work with, so this is a self-priming pump on its own base with the shortest, straightest suction run the pad allows. Where the draw comes over the rim, a drop pipe to the floor with a foot valve and a strainer keeps the leg full and keeps every joint where a person can see it.
2. Outlet. No bottom fitting size is listed on this tank. Name the liquid and the draw-off you want at order and we will confirm what Snyder fits to this moulding before anything is cut.
3. Run-dry protection. A level switch set above the floor, wired to stop the pump. On a tank under four feet deep the margin between a flooded suction and air is measured in inches.
4. Manway. One 18 inch threaded vented manway at 47 inches, worked from the ground. Fill through a dip tube to the floor so the stream does not foam, and vent outdoors on anything that fumes with the vent sized to the filling pump.

Where the low 550 sits against the tall one

This is its own mould, not a variant of the tall 550s. The tall shell is the 550 gallon ASTM XLPE black heavy duty tank 1800000N48, also made as the 550 gallon ASTM black heavy duty tank 1800000N51 and the 550 gallon black heavy duty tank 1800000C34, each rated on its own page, and those are the better buy whenever floor space is scarce and height is free. This tank is the opposite answer to the same volume. The 500 gallon ASTM XLPE heavy duty tank 5780100N42 trades volume for a narrower, taller shell, and the 710 gallon ASTM XLPE heavy duty tank 1700200N42 buys more. Choose by the clearance you actually have, then by the liquid.

Shipping and receiving

The tank ships LTL at freight class 400 from the nearer of Snyder's plants at Chowchilla, CA and Lincoln, NE, 64 by 64 by 47 inches on a pallet at 100 lb. The freight cost estimator gives the lane cost to your ZIP. At the tailgate, check the part number against 1820000N42 on the bill of lading, walk the wall and the manway threads for transit damage before signing, and fill it with water the first time before it carries anything else. In a working yard, build the plumbing to be knocked: the first valve on its own support off the pad and a flexible connector to hard pipe.
