The Snyder Industries 550 Gallon ASTM XLPE Heavy Duty Vertical Storage Tank is a crosslinked polyethylene vertical storage tank built for demanding above-ground water and liquid storage. It holds 550 gallons in a compact 64-inch by 64-inch footprint and stands only 47 inches tall, so it clears low ceilings and drops into tight equipment rooms where a taller vertical tank will not fit. The natural white wall lets natural-white XLPE translucency work in your favor when you glance at the level.
Will it work for your site
This is a crosslinked linear polyethylene (XLPE) tank built to ASTM XLPE specification, carrying a 1.9 specific gravity rating - the wall is engineered to hold contents up to 1.9 times the weight of water. That 1.9 is the ceiling for this heavy-duty grade, so there is no denser tier to cross-shop; if your liquid is at or under 1.9 SG, this tank covers it. Full of water the tank and contents weigh about 4,587 lb, and the shell is rated to carry up to 8,715 lb of contents at its maximum rated density. Plan your pad and anchoring for the full loaded weight, not the empty tank. XLPE construction gives this vertical tank a tougher, more impact- and stress-crack-resistant wall than standard HDPE - our guide on Snyder XLPE vs HDPE shows where crosslinking earns its keep.
Fittings and access
The tank is configured with a flanged outlet, an 18-inch PE threaded and vented lid, and a manway with 15-inch access for interior reach during cleaning or inspection. It also carries two 16-inch by 16-inch flat fitting pads that give you finished landing zones for adding bulkhead fittings or level instrumentation. Confirm the exact fitting locations and heights against the technical drawing on this page before you set final plumbing runs. If you are still sizing the job, remember nameplate 550 gallons is not the same as usable volume once freeboard is applied - our freeboard sizing guide and the Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide help you match real capacity to your draw rate.
Foundation and one thing not to skip
The most common mistake with a vertical storage tank this heavy is setting it on an undersized or unlevel base. A fully loaded tank concentrates thousands of pounds on that same 64 x 64 footprint that makes it so easy to place, so a flat, continuously supported, level pad is not optional. Our concrete pad sizing framework walks through the ACI guidance for above-ground polyethylene tanks. For rural fire-water or reservoir duty, the NFPA-22 reservoir sizing guide covers storage and freeze-protection planning.
