Bulk water and feed where the roof is low

This is a farm and shop tank before it is a chemical tank: a machine shed with purlins at head height, a dairy wash-down platform, a nursery mezzanine, a flatbed as a sprayer nurse tank, a wash rack rinse supply. The roof, the door or the deck height decides everything, and a tank under four feet clears all of them. The person using it also wants to see the level, and where somebody fills it with a hose and walks away that is worth more than any fitting. It is also the honest limit of this wall: a translucent tank passes light into the liquid, so anything that spoils or grows in light belongs in the black version instead. The wide footprint is the gentlest bearing pressure in this family and the least forgiving of an unlevel pad: 4,587 lb of water, or up to 8,715 lb at the rating, bears on the whole floor of the tank, so a slab with one low corner loads that corner. Engineer it per our concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact, inside a berm sized to the tank wherever the liquid is regulated. Strap it while it is empty even though it is short and heavy-footed, because a hundred pounds of empty tank is a wind load on an open deck.

A pump that has to pull rather than wait for head

1. Pump. No bottom fitting is listed on this tank and the shell is under four feet tall, so plan for a pump that pulls: a genuinely self-priming pump on its own base, a drop pipe through the lid to the floor with a foot valve and strainer, and the shortest suction leg the layout allows. It leaves nothing below the liquid line to weep. Tell us the liquid and the draw-off at order and we will confirm what Snyder fits to this moulding.
2. Run-dry protection. A level switch set above the floor; there are only a few inches of depth between a full suction and an empty one on a shell this shallow.
3. Manway. One 18 inch threaded vented manway at 46 inches, reachable standing on the ground. Fill down a dip tube to the floor to keep the stream from foaming, and vent outdoors on anything that fumes, sized to the pump filling it.

The tall 550s, and the 500 and 710

The argument for this tank over the tall ones is one number: 46 inches. Snyder's tall 550 shell is the 550 gallon ASTM XLPE black heavy duty tank 1800000N48, also made as the 550 gallon ASTM black heavy duty tank 1800000N51 and the 550 gallon black heavy duty tank 1800000C34, each rated on its own page; where a shed door or a truck deck rules out a tall shell, they are not candidates. The 500 gallon ASTM XLPE heavy duty tank 5780100N42 is a taller, narrower trade, and the 710 gallon ASTM XLPE heavy duty tank 1700200N42 is the step up when volume matters more than profile.

The tank ships LTL at freight class 400 from the nearer of Snyder's plants at Marked Tree, AR and Philippi, WV, 64 by 64 by 46 inches on a pallet at 100 lb. At the tailgate, check the part number against 8060000N42 on the bill of lading, walk the wall and the manway threads for transit damage before signing, and fill it with water the first time before it carries anything else. Keep the lid closed between fills, because a translucent tank left open in the sun grows things a dark one would not, and put freeze protection on the suction line, never on the body.
