The Snyder Industries 550 Gallon Vertical Water Storage Tank in green is a polyethylene vertical storage tank built for bulk water storage, rainwater capture, fire-reserve, and process make-up duty. It stands 77 inches tall on a 48 x 48 inch footprint, holds 550 gallons, and carries a 1.0 specific gravity rating - the standard rating for water and water-density liquids. The green color is the working choice for outdoor water storage because it cuts light transmission and slows algae growth in the tank.

Will it work for your site?

Filled to capacity, this vertical storage tank carries about 4,587 pounds of water, which is also its maximum rated contents weight. Spread across the 48 x 48 inch base - 16 square feet - that is roughly 287 pounds per square foot, so plan your pad and anchoring around the loaded figure, not the empty shell: the slab has to be full-perimeter, level, and rated for that bearing load. The 1.0 specific gravity rating means this tank is engineered for water and other liquids no heavier than water; it is not rated for heavier chemical service. Need a higher specific-gravity rating for chemical or dense-fluid duty? Call 866-418-1777 before ordering - this is a water-class unit, not the right tank for it. If you are sizing a reservoir for rural fire protection, our fire-water reservoir design guide walks through NFPA 22 sizing and cold-climate freeze protection, and the Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide help you match this 550-gallon vertical tank to your actual draw.

Fittings and access

This tank ships configured for real plumbing, not just a blank shell. It carries a flange, a 1-1/2 inch polypropylene Eco-bulkhead fitting with an EPDM textured gasket, and a 2 inch standard polypropylene bulkhead fitting with an EPDM gasket. Tie those ports to their roles by size: the 1-1/2 inch port suits a fill or supply line, while the larger 2 inch port suits a gravity drain or transfer run where you want faster flow - both already installed, so you are not drilling the tank yourself. Both bulkheads seal on EPDM gaskets, which suit water, hot and cold water, and water-density liquids, but are not the right elastomer for petroleum or aggressive solvent service. Up top is an 18 inch polyethylene manway with an integral 4 inch vent and tie-down, giving you access for cleaning and inspection plus a vent path so the tank can breathe as it fills and draws down. The exact fitting positions and heights are dimensioned on the technical drawing on this page - check it before you set the pad so your inlet and outlet line up with your plumbing run.

Install discipline

Because the loaded tank concentrates several thousand pounds on a 4-foot square base, pad preparation is where most field problems start. Our concrete pad sizing guide covers the ACI 360R-10 framework for above-ground poly tanks, and before you put the tank into service, the hydrostatic test methodology guide shows how to water-fill in stages, watch pad settlement, and check every fitting for leaks before the tank is loaded. If this is part of a grey-water, rainwater, or condensate reuse train, the water reuse topology guide covers how to band quality and sequence storage stages.
