The Snyder Industries 6000 Gallon ASTM XLPE Black Vertical Storage Tank is a crosslinked linear polyethylene (XLPE) tank built for high-density bulk water and heavy-liquid storage where a standard polyethylene wall would be pushed past its limit. It stands 145 inches tall on a 120-inch diameter footprint and holds 6,000 gallons. It is rated to 1.5 specific gravity - the highest density band a poly tank of this size carries. If your fluid runs heavier than 1.5 SG, no larger poly tank covers it and you move to steel or FRP; at or under 1.5, this black UV-stable XLPE tank is a workhorse for fire-water reserves, bulk process water, agricultural supply, and reuse storage trains.

Will it work for your application?

Sizing is where large vertical tanks get people. Filled with plain water this tank carries roughly 50,040 pounds of contents; at its full 1.5 specific gravity rating it is engineered for up to about 75,060 pounds of liquid. Those are contents weights only - the tank's own shipping and lift weight is separate, listed on the technical drawing and reflected in your freight quote, so size your crane or offload equipment off that figure rather than assuming 50,040 pounds is the lift. It ships fitted with a flange outlet, an 18-inch PE threaded/vented fitting, and a manway with 15-inch access. That 15-inch port is an inspection and cleanout access point - handy for the periodic cleaning a grey-water or reuse train needs - rather than a full personnel entry. Because the 18-inch fitting is vented, this tank runs atmospherically: keep your fill and draw rates within the vent's capacity so you never cap it and collapse or balloon the wall. Confirm your bulkhead and flange gaskets and pipe threads match the supplied flange and 18-inch PE threaded fitting before you plumb it. Use the technical drawing on this page for exact fitting locations and elevations, and run your volume through our Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide before you set anchors.

Foundation and freeboard

A tank at this weight demands a properly engineered base. The 120 x 120 inch footprint needs a level, full-contact pad rated for the loaded weight - see our guide on concrete pad sizing for above-ground polyethylene tanks. If this is going into a fire-water reserve, size the usable volume against draw-down and freeboard the way our fire-water reservoir design guide lays out, and for reuse or grey-water trains see our industrial water reuse topology guide.

The mistake to avoid

The common error on an XLPE vertical this large is treating the specific gravity rating as an afterthought. The 1.5 rating tells you the tank wall can handle a liquid up to 1.5 times the density of water - but you still have to build the foundation and anchoring for that loaded weight, and confirm your actual fluid density falls at or under 1.5. Under-building the pad or over-filling with a denser product than the tank is rated for is what turns a long-service tank into an early failure. Match the fluid, the SG rating, and the foundation, and this vertical storage tank will outlast most of what surrounds it.
