Where it goes

The plants that order this wall have a delivery of liquid that weighs more per gallon than water does: a dense coagulant or an acid at a water or wastewater plant, a plating or pickling solution at a metal finisher, a concentrated fertilizer at a blender. Under all of that is the slab. What to check before you buy

1. The resin. Why crosslinked polyethylene rather than high density is the subject of when crosslinking matters for chemistry duty, the right read before a dense or aggressive liquid goes into any single wall tank. Check the liquid itself in our chemical compatibility guide.
2. The outlet. The product data for 5300600N48 names the manway and no base fitting. Tell us the liquid and the flow at order and we confirm what the tank is supplied with before anything is drilled. The first valve goes on its own support off the pad with a flexible connector between fitting and hard pipe, never hung on the tank wall.
3. Pump placement. Mount the transfer pump below the outlet; a dense liquid standing 186 inches above it gives a strong flooded suction and keeps the pump off its cavitation curve when the tank is a quarter full. A low level cutout stops it before it draws air.
4. The manway and vent. An 18 inch threaded vented manway at 186 inches wants a platform with a rail, a permanent fill line, a dip tube to the floor and a vent run outdoors on anything that fumes, sized to the delivery pump.
5. Containment. Where a spill plan calls for a second wall instead of a berm, the double wall freeboard guide works out what a contained tank actually gives you to use. Temperature limit: 140 F.
