Snyder Industries 9800 Gallon Heavy Duty Vertical Storage Tank

This is the tank for a plant that buys ferric, caustic, acid or brine by the tanker and stores it inside a tall chemical building or under a canopy, where an operator wants to read eighteen feet of level by eye and the sun never touches the wall. Snyder makes the same shell in black for an open pad, and in a standard wall for water and light chemicals; buy this one when the liquid is dense and the tank is under cover. Full of water it weighs 9,800 x 8.34 = 81,732 lb plus the tank, and a liquid at the 1.9 rating almost twice that, on a 120 inch circle. Openings and fittings

1. Vent first. The 18 inch manway is vented, and on a tank that takes two tankers the vent is sized before anything else. Every gallon the truck pumps in pushes a gallon of air out, and every gallon a transfer pump draws pulls a gallon back in; a vent too small for either lets eighteen feet of wall bulge or suck in at the shoulder. 2. Outlet. A 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting low in the wall. Eighteen feet of liquid above it is the strongest flooded suction in the family; put the pump at pad level, add a low level float, and support the valve and the first pipe run off the pad. Trace or insulate that run where winters freeze.
3. Manway. 215 inches up: a platform with a rail for whoever opens it, a dip tube to the floor for the fill, and a level sender at the ground because nobody climbs eighteen feet to look.
