Sump Tanks
Sump Tanks — Comprehensive Catalog
Sump tanks integrate an engineered low-point sump into the vessel bottom — a depressed catch basin that concentrates sediment, slurry, or pump-suction at a single low location. The sump is the difference between a tank that drains to 95% and a tank that drains to 100%. Critical for slurry pump NPSH (net positive suction head), sediment-laden water, and any process where dead-leg residue is a contamination or maintenance concern. Catalog spans Norwesco, Snyder Industries, Chem-Tainer, Enduraplas, and Bushman sump-bottom SKUs.
Applications
- Wastewater and slurry storage with downstream solids pump-out
- Sediment-laden water (well, surface, dewatering) — sump concentrates fines for periodic flush
- Chemical feed where total-drain matters between batches (no cross-contamination)
- Process holding for solids-bearing fluids — concentrates evacuation point
- Pump suction wells — sump provides NPSH and prevents pump cavitation as level drops
Compliance & Standards
Typically rotomolded to ASTM D1998; FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 resin compliance varies by model (see each product's Specifications). Sump configurations are structurally reinforced in the depressed area; consult OEM literature for exact sump dimensions and outlet sizing on each SKU. Specific-gravity rating applies to the full fluid column above the sump base, not just the sump volume.
Engineering & Selection
Sump geometry is typically a recessed cone or dished depression with a centerline outlet discharging through the tank base. Three things to verify: (1) sump outlet diameter must match your downstream piping or pump suction (commonly 2", 3", or 4"); (2) sump depth determines how much NPSH the downstream pump has at minimum level — coordinate with your pump vendor; (3) base support must accommodate the sump protrusion — either a structural stand with a sump cutout or a recessed concrete pad.
Freight & Delivery
Tanks ship LTL motor freight from the closest stocking warehouse to your delivery ZIP. Typical transit 5–10 business days. Liftgate available at delivery (per-shipment fee). Always inspect at delivery and note damage on the bill of lading before signing — that is the carrier claim trigger. Bulk-order consolidation reduces per-tank freight 25–40%. Get your LTL freight quote by ZIP, or call 866-418-1777 for same-business-day quoted pricing.
Sizing & Selection
Match sump outlet to your downstream service first, then size capacity. Need NPSH or pump-suction review? Call 866-418-1777 with your pump model and head/flow requirements.
